Have Nepal allowed only 1 hiker with a guide to Manaslu now? Thanks
@StephThorntonNEPAL2 жыл бұрын
No, I don't believe the rule has changed. You still need two trekkers, but there are ways that guides / trekking companies can assist you in registering a "ghost trekker" if you prefer to be just you and a guide!

Hi Stephanie, really a beautiful job. it excited me a lot. If you don't mind, I'd like to ask you for some info. me and a friend would like to plan a trip right here. we would like to photograph mainly the people who live in these villages. in other videos these villages seem deserted. what do you think? We were thinking of traveling in January but we are afraid that the weather will be quite harsh. Do you think it is feasible or the snow could hinder a lot? thank you so much
@StephThorntonNEPAL9 ай бұрын
Hi Dylan! Thank you so much for watching and for your comment :) And that's great that you and your friend are planning on going to Manaslu/Tsum Valley! The villages along this route are not deserted, there were a lot of people who call these places home. Traveling there in January would not be impossible, but as you get to the higher altitudes it would definitely be a LOT colder, and possible you would not be able to cross the pass due to weather and/or snow. Is January the only time you have available to visit? Please let me know if you have any other questions - I would be happy to help!

Awesome stuff! and well documented :D I have a question, I heard reports of not being able to hike this route solo and that you need another person or guide? is this the case? thank you in advance
@StephThorntonNEPAL2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Brodie! And what you heard is correct. Because Manaslu is a restricted area, you'll need a special area permit and you are not allowed to do the trek without a guide and a registered trekking agency needs to obtain your permit. As well, there's this funny rule that you need to go with at least one other trekker. There's a good summary here of these rules: www.magicalnepal.com/travel-guide/manaslu/manaslu-trek-permit/. It's not difficult for the trekking companies to work out the two-trekker rule though if want to go just you and a guide! Let me know if you have any other questions, and hope you get to come out here to do this trek - it's spectacular!

Hi, thanks for the video! how is it possible to do both, tsum+circuit, in 12 days?!?!
@StephThorntonNEPAL Жыл бұрын
Hi Filippo! Thanks for watching :) Well, we had to squeeze this trek into 12 days, so we hiked longer days to be able to make it in time. If we had more time, we definitely would have liked to spend more time in Tsum Valley, definitely more to explore there than we could see!

Dear @Stephanie Thornton, 12 days for trek and Tsum valley is quite good. 1. What trekking agency did u use? 2. Afaik there should be 2+ trekkers plus porter or guide. Can u confirm this? 3. Did you organize the agency and permits on arrival in Kathmandu? 4. I wonder if its possible to find trekking partners in Kathmandu Sorry for so many questions. I am sure answers will be very useful for future Manaslu trekkers

Hi Stephanie! Thanks for this amazing video, it is so well documented! I am doing the manaslu circuit trek in april and although I am very used to the mountains, I am a bit concerned about not-so-safe parts of the trek such as the one you show in minute 3:48. Is this common? Thanks!
@StephThorntonNEPAL Жыл бұрын
Hi Naroa! Thanks so much for your message, I really appreciate your kinds words :) Awesome you are doing Manaslu Circuit next month, this is still one of my favorite treks. I also get a bit nervous on narrow trails that are high up, and while I do remember a maybe one or two spots on this trek where the trail is a tad narrow, it never felt dangerous, and is very similar to other circuit treks in Nepal. Hope that helps and let me know if you have any other questions!

Hi! Thanks for great video! I'm planning to do Tsum Manaslu this fall with my Japanese partner Rika. May I ask some questions? It looked like you and your husband Khadak were on your own. Could you enter without guide because he was with you? & did you still need to get a restricted permit for yourself, plus a ghost permit? Do you think it's possible to get permits and enter by ourselves with a Nepali friend? Good Luck with your farm and life in Nepal! Best wishes, Bob, Niseko, Hokkaido Japan
@StephThorntonNEPAL Жыл бұрын
Hi Bob and thank you so much for your comment and well wishes! Great to hear that you and your partner Rika are planning to come do the Manaslu Circuit this fall, and I'm happy to answer your questions :) 1) Could you enter without guide because he was with you? & did you still need to get a restricted permit for yourself, plus a ghost permit? --> Khadak has a guiding license which is why we were able to do the Circuit just us two. I needed the restricted permit for myself, and we were able to coordinate with another trekking agency, who had a guide and a client doing the circuit at the same time, in order to not have to pay double for a "ghost trekker". 2) Do you think it's possible to get permits and enter by ourselves with a Nepali friend? --> You will need to have a licensed Nepali guide with you, as there are several check posts along the route. It's also helpful to have a registered trekking agency help you to get the permit ahead of time, although double (ish) on your own. Sounds like you have connections here in Nepal, but please let me know if you'd like me to connect you with a guide or agency that I trust and recommend! Wish you and your family all the best in Hokkaido, and please do let me know if you have any more questions or want any recommendations!
