Yup! Also, it is technically even less defendable than the svastika, which as many know has a religious and cultural significance in Asia, particularily in India. The "Roman" salute doesn't have any such current cultural attachment, it is exclusively used in fascist circles. Think about this. Elon Musk did, in front of millions of Americans, whether accidentally or on purpose, the exact motion of a symbol whose SOLE USE is fascism... TWICE. And what do we get for an acknowledgement? A snide remark and historically challenged people defending him online. Now, I don't know about anyone else, but personally, if I accidentally displayed a fascist symbol less ambiguous than the fudging SVASTIKA in public, I would follow that up with a sincere, heartfelt apology. Most ASD diagnoses _are_ self-diagnoses, since your family doctor can't read your mind to tell whether or not you're answering their questions accurately or honestly. A doctor will typically send a patient who thinks they might be autistic to an online questionnaire form that can narrow it down (or rule it out) based on like, a bajillion questions, and the doctor's formal diagnosis is just them saying "yep, I have no reason to doubt the validity of this result". A doctor's role in an ASD diagnosis is literally just certifying the diagnosis you found on your own (using provided resources). That said, Aspergers is *very* distinct and pretty hard to misidentify, and Elon doesn't really match the behavioural traits I would expect from someone with that specific type of autism. (Source: am autistic, went through the whole process as an adult, might be different depending on region or age) Edit: probably also varies based on level of independence and capacity to actually fill out the form unassisted. I imagine in the event that a patient is _severely_ autistic, it would fall to a psychologist to determine what specifically is going on with them as their ability to accurately self-analyze would be in question.
@badgermcbadger196820 сағат бұрын
@@flarpo11genuine question, if Asperger's is so distinct why is it not diagnosed anymore? From what I understand it's considered a part of the asd spectrum now, but it may have been because of the background term rather than scientific reasons
@flarpo1120 сағат бұрын
@badgermcbadger1968 That I don't actually know. I have a friend who has Aspergers, but his diagnosis was a long time ago so it might not be classified the same way anymore, (it may have been split up into multiple concurrent diagnoses that don't always come as a full package or something). Most of my knowledge of Aspergers is based on talking with my friend, whose experience was long enough ago that the understanding/definition of the disorder may have changed considerably since then. Now I'm curious... Edit (after a quick google search): Yep, it was just folded into ASD since it's not always the exact same set of symptoms and having it as its own standalone thing was detrimental to comprehensive and thorough diagnosis. It's super weird that I never put that together despite actually going through the process myself. It wasn't relevant to me at the time, I suppose.

@Respectable_UsernameКүн бұрын
@thecyanadon Bruh, that's why I said that you have to take the whole gesture and compare it to the whole gesture. The salute isn't _just_ the out-raised arm, but the hand on the heart that then snaps out at a certain rhythm afterwards. Kamala gesticulated while she was speaking and her arm happened to pass through that final angle. Elon did the whole move, in the correct rhythm, twice. Go watch the videos showing Elon's gestures playing alongside historical uses of that gesture, the _whole_ gesture, not just the arm's final resting place. The only way to deny what Elon did is via a deep ignorance of history. Even just the fact that most folks don't know about the first part of the salute, that Elon also performed, shows most people's extremely shallow understanding of the past.

@@TyocityUsually, when people make gestures after saying “my heart goes out to you,” they put their hand on their heart and directly gestures to the audience from the heart. I’m pretty sure they don’t deliberately psyche themselves up into then doing a Hitler salute way off to the side. And also, they don’t tend to do overly passionate gestures twice in a row to make sure everyone in the back can see it. Plus, (after rewatching) Elon didn’t put his hand over his heart. He put his right hand very close to his left shoulder, and then (literally jumping with excitement) overdelivered on the sieg heil. Given that Musk is a known anti-Semite and far-right provocateur who has a history of overt far-right politics and rage baiting/dog whistling, the excuse that he didn’t mean it that way is moot. The reason I say this is becuase modern Nazi fascist salutes follow the EXACT SAME formula as Elon’s. Putting your right hand near your left shoulder, and then thrusting out your right arm at a 135* angle with the palm facing down. This has been extensively documented! So I think Elon boy over here wanted to dog whistle by following the neo-Nazi formula but make the arm thrust just vague enough to claim plausible deniability, but he, overflowing with glee, blew his load - one might say. You can really tell he FELT that sieg hail, as can be ascertained by his very distinct and loud grunt from the physical activity, and his suit comically sticking out of his right out of tje end of the podium

You know what gets me about this? If it wasn't a Nazi salute, Elon would have just... said so. He would have been like "Hey nazis are bad and I didn't mean to do that". Instead he just gets straight onto twitter and starts talking about how multiculturalism is evil. Like... he doesn't even want to PRETEND it was toootally an accident because it would piss off his nazi fans.

I find this to be more telling than anything else, if it was an accident, why not clear that up?

I think you need to be absolutely lost in the sauce to think that guy literally was trying to give the salute. I've accidentally thrown a heil out by accident. All you have to do is throw your hand out till your arm is straight. People do it accidentally all the time. Get off the internet dude.

@ No. Politicians raise their right arm all the time. There's photos of Trump doing it. There's photos of Obama, Clinton, Biden and Kamala doing it. Politicians do not thump their chest and quickly raise their right hand, fingers outstretched, thumb in. Twice back to back. I've only ever seen two prominent political figures do that at a speech. Elon was the second one.

Three times actually. There's a picture where it's even closer to the salute. Like actually IDENTICAL. That one's not on video though, so we don't know what the motion was.
