In the first Japanese episode of Vice's alternative approach to food television we hang out with the crew from Hatos Bar in Tokyo's Naka-Meguro area. These guys cook American style pit barbecue at its best. Owners Sou Ieki and Dubrai take us to their favorite restaurant and bar and get suitably wasted before cooking up some barbecue back at Hatos. I am so jealouse of Japanese modern style and friendship. Here in America we have great food yes, but not friendly owned and operated. And visiting fellow owners and respecting their place and family for an enjoyable lifestyle and respect. I lived in Kyushu, Fukuoka Japan for 16 years. I loved it. When I moved back to the states, I felt I was going back to the stone age.

Nakameguro is such a dope neighborhood. They have everything from a pet store called Snobbish Babies to a dude who makes amazing coffee out of a van (Hidari Pocket). Really a hidden gem in Tokyo.

It's not so bad what's offered, some people crave something international, It's about delivering the closest thing to those whom can't travel or are homesick a passible accommodation that's an achievement in itself.
