Manchester Airport's New Terminal 2 & Escape Lounge - A Walk Through

The new Terminal 2 at Manchester Airport has been a long time in the making. A fresh new look for the airport, with a newer, bigger, brighter terminal building for passengers. The video takes you from the new check in area, through the new security section, into the new departures hall. We also visit the escape lounge, showcasing its offerings and amazing apron views.

Badly thought out terminal. Security is a mess, they send you upstairs & force you through duty free (who cares?) The new central area is ok BUT then they send you back downstairs & thru the back of security & along the old low, ceilinged rabbit warrens to the the gates. And why, if the airlines have passengers with drink problems does the airport keep putting bars in the terninal? Let's face it, Britain build bad airports. All I want to do is bag drop, go thru security & then str8 to the gate & leave. Brits are still fascinated with flying so I suppose it satisfies the bucket & spade brigade that Manchester tends to cater to as it certainly doesn't have the frequent traveller in mind

Well, you just answered your own question really. This airport is mostly used by leisure travellers, and most are in the U.K., except maybe London City Airport and Heathrow Airport. Yes I agree it is not the best designed airport and does not factor in long term strategy or airports of the future. Though all the stores and restaurants, bars you mention are there to make the airport revenue…where else do you think, it comes from. Landing slots bought by Jet2 Ryanair and Easyjet don’t be silly… If they wanted to make Manchester more of a hub airport for long haul airlines like Virgin Atlantic, British Airways and even Delta or Singapore. By catering to leisure travellers and not alliance airlines or frequent fliers, it will suffer with a long term strategy to build itself as a hub airport. Bad for the North and U.K. as a whole

After reading your comment again, it is pretty accurate. Bucket and spade brigade definitely is lol. Also, many folks on certain airlines, TUI and Jet2, act like they’ve never been on a plane before… Though, Manchester itself is growing and becoming England’s 2nd city, the airport is not matching a vision for the future. This airport doesn’t factor all elements of the passenger journey, both land side and air side, as you said. Also, is this terminal big enough, around restaurant and bar areas? Passenger traffic is down 90%, so need to X current volume by 9 and I assume it will be crampt again…with not enough seating. Dallas-Fort-Worth Airport wants to be biggest and busiest in the world, Manchester seems happy enough to make top 200. Boldness and future vision is lacking

I totally agree. I’ve used T2 twice cos I use Qatar when I fly to Thailand. 1st time I used the T2 was in February & I hated the online check self service machine. Didn’t really understood what the purpose it was for as I had to queue up again for adding baggages to the plane which adds more of my time stressing out. The security was okay but once I arrived at the departure lounge I was very disappointed with the shops & food. Very limited & overpriced as expected. I just left from Manchester T2 on Saturday & again same process but lack of staff & lack of seats due to overcrowding of passengers. I certainly won’t be using Qatar again & opt to use Emirates as they use T1

The sad fact is that the only airport I went to was Heathrow and Kuwait and then Columbo to see my grandma which meant my parents had to drive from somewhere in Lancashire to Heathrow.

I’ve used T2 twice whiles flying with Qatar Airways & I’m not a huge fan of the place. Self service checking in machine is a complete mess & very stressful time consuming. Shops are very limited & ridiculously overpriced as expected & restaurants is very limited of choices compared to T1.

I love the pink and purple lights helps to keep people calm and looks great. However, not any place to eat that is English all USA. Plus why is none of that food covered i would never think of eating any of it left there collecting dust and germs and covid from people, plus those "hot plates" dont keep the food hot and are useless.

To be honest, I don't like the new look for the terminal. Before the refurb, it was so simple and easy to get around. Now it's become too complex and some of the good shops and restaurants that were there are gone.

Used this terminal today.. pure chaos. 2 and half hours queueing with bagging and security. Then my plane delayed for 3 hours just to be told its cancelled. I'm now still in Manchester in a hotel TUI have put me up for the night til tomo to try it all again. Good luck

Looks like they’ve done a good job, only things I would recommend are more artistic sculptures or colourful art, better leather cushioned chairs/seating throughout and maybe better luxury lounges similar to those in Singapore or Dubai Airports. Also Heathrow has Harrods stores, are there any similar luxury boutique stores in Manchester Cheshire or Liverpool? Though the airline alliances such as One World or Sky Team can always add their luxury high end lounges in later. Does anyone know what airlines will be flying out of this terminal? Will there be any United States airlines flying here still?

Why are you swearing? A layover is for a connecting flight? 🤦🏼‍♂️ There aren’t many connecting flights through Manchester like Heathrow, but that is definitely needed. Luxury lounges attract a wealthier clientele who are willing to spend a lot more money. This also builds loyalty frequent flyer programs for airlines, and keeps customers coming back to use the same airport lounges. Check out Singapore Airlines Airport lounges for reference, you idiots. British Airways and Virgin Atlantic, as well as their international partner airlines (Delta, American, Qatar, Emirates) need to invest more into this airport like they do at Heathrow Airport. You obviously have no idea about commercial aviation and probably fly with TUI, Ryanair, Easyjet,Jet2 only. International airports are competing globally and domestically. Manchester Airport needs to look further than cheap European destinations, expand into Asian and North American cities like Singapore, Hong Kong, Tawain, Bangkok/Bali, Dallas, Austin, Miami and LA, Montreal, Calgary, Vancouver, Havana, Cancun. That way Manchester Airport can serve more as a long haul airport for the North. Liverpool, Birmingham, Leeds can act as low cost airports for passengers like yourself who fly with TUI or Ryanair. Currently most long haul flights depart from Heathrow, meaning passengers have to travel down to Heathrow by train, coach or car.

Thanks. I hadn’t realised the rebuilt terminal was open! I see that Etihad, Qatar & Singapore are among the airlines to move to T2, whereas Emirates is still in T1. I suppose that’s because the A380 enhanced gate is associated with T1. Pity…..
