But Manchester is NOT Englands Second City mate, do your resurch. The City of Manchester is officialy the 6th largest City of Englland and the UK after the City of Liverpool the 3rd largest City, the City of Glasgow 4th largest City, the City of Bristol 5th and the City of Manchester the 6th largest city with a population of 580,000 citizens. The UK's ooficial Second City and Second largest City as per the UK Government is the CITY OF BIRMINGHAM with Europes largest City Council and a population of 1.5 million + and Birmingham has been the second City for 200 years now, don't go down the road of Greater Manchester as that is not a City it is just a Metropolitan County Council. do your resurch.

Yeah, Manchester punches well above it's weight unlike Brum. Although Brum is improving slowly, Manchester beats it in terms culture, sports, media and skyline. Brum only has its population as a reason to claim itself as the 'second city' lol. I imagine the gap is only going to widen when there's inevitable investment around the Trafford area (although not 100% sure if Trafford is considered part of Manchester by Mancs). Even so, if almost everything wasn't so London focused, Manchester could be a good candidate for another UK Olympics in he future

Fantastic flim, panoramic, moody, edited and colourful. The first of the Trinity Island Towers' quartet a new landmark dramatically catches the eye. The unloved Strangeways area with the prison on the former site of Strangeways Hall, home of the Ducie family is getting some attention. The Echo Street/Vimto Gardens Bowmer/Kirkland will be a landmark. Downtown districts were traditionally for offices, e.g. Canary Wharf. Not really so in Salford & Manchester. Largely residential and pricey, aimed at students and ex -students. Offices are second-best now because of WFH. Mayfield Development, Rylands and House of Fraser apparently seem to be rather stagnating. The jury seems to be still out on Viadux2 with the decision overdue. One project apparently that has been waved through is the Hotspur student building. Much obliged, a joy to watch. 👀

Wonderful video :) Can't wait for Contour to rise. Anyone any news on Viadux 2?
@English_Dawn4 ай бұрын
@@cartoonvandal As far as I know Viadux2 the decision was due months ago. English Heritage objected to the height of one of the three parts, the 76 storey tower. Since then it seems to have been kicked into the long grass. Sakboy/Domis had planned to sort out the contracts then get on site July onwards with a four year programme. If the 76 storey tower is cut back or eliminated it probably makes the other two parts, the affordable housing tower and public realm improvements, uneconomic. The original plan for Viadux2 was for a fifteen storey office block. Working From Home put paid to that as office building is becoming toxic. House of Fraser, Mayfield and Rylands which included offices also apparently in stasis.

@@English_Dawn Thanks for the info. Exactly how much power and what leverage to English heritage have? To put it bluntly, can't they simply be thanked for their opinion and 'ignored'?
@English_Dawn4 ай бұрын
@@cartoonvandal Not sure. It's been delayed thus far. The whole Viadux2 is at risk. Aware of the Hotspur Building on Cambridge Street? Similar situation. Developer wants to build a student tower alongside. Mcr. Metropolitan U. objected saying only 9%(?) were affordable. Council passed it. Perhaps 9% is better than nothing and nothing getting built.

Having a taller Skyline doesnt make Manchester the second city it simply is not Birmingham has twice the population btw i live in neither city
@BardhokNdoji3 ай бұрын
That's right, but having a larger population doesn't necessarily make a city more important. For instance, in Scotland, Edinburgh is the capital, while Glasgow has a larger population. Similarly, many countries have capital cities with smaller populations compared to other major cities, including Australia. So, what criteria do you consider when determining which city should be the second most significant? I'm not entirely sure, but I’d guess it involves looking at multiple factors rather than just one.
