I recall visiting in the late 1950’s/early 60’s,but as a gricer from the south (Luton) Victoria was more interesting as it was much busier,although,obviously we saw all the through trains that called at Exchange. I did walk the length of that fantastically long platform out of curiosity. Interesting post as it stirs old memories. Thank you.

I remember it well. Dad told me that the joint Exchange/Victoria platform was the longest in Europe, thanks for confirming it. I would have used this station to travel between Huddersfield, where I lived and Bangor, where I went to university c1968. My enduring memory of one of these journeys was when I was walking along the platform and a very attractive young lady grabbed my hand, much to the consternation of her boyfriend who was a few steps ahead.
