In 1968, a new type of double decker bus appeared on the streets of Manchester, England. It was called the Manchester Mancunian.
Delivered to Manchester City Transport, and the creation of Manager Ralph Bennett and in-house designer Ken Mortimer, it represented a new type of styling that was considered an improvement over other buses of the time.
With it's pleasing proportions and deep front windshield, the Mancunian quickly became a favorite of enthusiasts.
A total of 472 were built, which ran from 1968 to 1984.
Interestingly, 8 double decker buses ordered by the New York City Transit Authority, and placed into service in 1976, were based closely on the Mancunian design.
See an hear the story of the Manchester Mancunian, one of the most beautiful buses of all time!
