Man Utd made a stunning start to the 1985-86 season winning their first 10 league games.
However due to a TV strike alot of the goals in our great 1st half of the season were not shown on TV
** If someone has the Man Utd Season Review for 1985-86 which was included on the 1986-87 Season Review then I would greatly appreicate if you sent a copy onto me

I went to most of the games on that run. I think the last goal was against Southampton to make it 10 out of 10 wins. Peter Shilton had a blinder that day before Mark Hughes scored the winner late on in the game. I was standing on the United Road at that end of the ground and will never forget the atmosphere when Hughesy banged in the winner. Great days!

The TV strike only applied to England, there were still TV cameras filming matches for broadcast to foreign countries. Try the Scandanavian countries, they probably have quite a bit of United footage from that period. If Sheffield Wed. v. W.B.A. was shown abroad, then it's quite likely that there's more United footage.

I think there used to be a video on KZbin (maybe without commentary) of all the goals from United's first 15 or so matches. It might have been an official club video actually. But for decades everyone was agreed that not only was there no First Division football on television in autumn 1985 (which is definitely true), but none of it was filmed or recorded (which clearly isn't true). I guess unless you were at the game and happened to notice the camera(s), you wouldn't have been aware that it was being filmed - but it's still surprising that for many years no one at all seemed to realise that footage of those early games did exist.

That team would have won the title that season if it wasn't for the horrendous injuries. I just wonder how Liverpool would have coped without Dalglish, Rush, Lawrenson, Hansen, Nichol, Whelan and Neal all at the same time ?

Had Liverpool not won it Everton would have won it.

United always had a small squad in those days - usually 13 first-teamers and not a lot besides. So they couldn't really survive an injury crisis. They heart of the team were also notorious boozers so they didn't help themselves either. They might have been able to win the league in 85/86 if they'd stayed injury-free and if they'd looked after themselves. So it's not really a surprise we couldn't see it home. :-(

Unforgivable what happened United should have built on that 10 game winning start and wrapped the league title up

We were too reliant on Capt Marvel to carry the team. The moment he got injured we were gone.

Still hurts doesn't it. Just think how amazing it would have been to have won the title just once in the 80s.

Manchester United fans were the first to say "this is our year "😂

Even if that IS true, this would have been the only season they did say it (and 1991-92 I suppose), and because they won their first ten games!!.... they didn't just say it because "they had a feeling"...

When United made that tremendous winning start a lot of people were saying it [a first title win for them since 1967] had been a long time coming. But it always seemed to be Manchester United and Spurs making all the glamour headlines in the back pages at the start of every new season with their signings - but Liverpool who ended up with the league title in their trophy cabinet. And if it wasn't Liverpool it was Cloughie's Nottingham Forest in 1978,Aston Villa in 1981 or Everton in 1985 and 1987. They were saying by 1985 that you could draw a line between Bristol and the Wash and assume that the champions would come from somewhere north of it. Finally,in the very last gasp of the 1988-89 season,Arsenal pulled off that extraordinary win on that May night at Anfield and wrested the title off Liverpool. It was the south's first title triumph for 18 years - since Arsenal's double-winning side of 1971 captured it.

Ha ha, his best moment was Feyenoord vs United in 1997 - United had a penalty claim turned down, he was waffling about it to Ron Atkinson while the attack continued, then Andy Cole scored and he shouted "PENALTY!!" He was a bit of a bumbler at times, true, but he had a great voice, clearly loved football and television viewers just found him likeable. Much more so than Motson and Davies, who never seemed like particularly nice characters.
