Manchester Utd v Bristol City Div 1 1979/80

Bristol City start brightly and Fitzpatrick misses the target when well placed. After this it is one-way traffic as second-placed United prove too strong for a struggling City side. The season before City won with a hat-trick from Kevin Mabbutt, this time he is on the bench and City are also missing Norman Hunter in defence following his retirement. To date City's last appearance at Old Trafford.

Joe Royle didn't look very happy at being subbed, I guess he was on the transfer list as we couldn't afford his wages?

Think he came to Norwich can remember Paul Cheesly leaving us for Bristol City early seventies. Shame Bristol City never made the premier league it's possibly worse then our flirting with it ...

Yes I see that Joe joined Norwich in 1980 and had one really good season, not sure why his form dropped off for us. Cheesley was a great signing for us and key to us winning promotion although I remember he had a bit of a 'bad boy' image on arrival and took a while to make his mark. So sad he was injured in our second match in Div 1 and didn't recover, would have played for England otherwise.@@thetruthk5138
