Made this return journey every day between 1969 and 1972 when at college in Manchester. Curious how a repetitive and tedious journey can evoke the most treasured memories.. Thank you so much for this experience...

I used to travel this line, so I might be on one of the various films of it. And I was on the very last service back to Bury in august 1991 and I was the last passenger off the station at Bury interchange that night. And as it was the last service they let us travel for free.

Did anyone ever follow up on “the noisiest house in England” next to the track near Prestwich since the track was made continuous welded and the trams replaced the Class 504s?

There’s 2 shorter mainline bay platforms next to the Metrolink now for only up to 4 carriages. I see Class 195s or Sprinters most times that I go to Manchester Victoria

Towards the end of their lives, many similar trains to the Bury units began to become very unkempt and untidy. I guess it was because they were going to be withdrawn anyway, so they just didn't bother looking after the interiors.

I still remember going on a Virgin Trains service from Manchester - London when I was about 2 in about 1996/97 🙂 Just wish I knew which locomotive was hauling the train, Could've been a class 86, 87 or 90
