The fact that these were still in service when the pendolinos were beginning service is beyond me

They would of gone on for longer had it not being for traction interlock becoming a legal requirement!
@slendermanRblx Жыл бұрын
@@andymccabe1088 Wasn’t interlock. It was Central Door Locking (CDL) that was needed. This was the system fitted to Mk2s and Mk3s.

Yes! These were used as express trains! Always a six car train! 1978, 1979! The 5.40pm from Blackpool North to Manchester Victoria express train! Yes, 70mph! Blue and grey carriages!

They're saying 'they' but the northern accent makes it sound like 'thee'. No one here says 'thee'.

The announcements in this video, some of which are cut off - do you still have the full recordings? These are defunct TOC’s being announced and is very interesting to hear.
@dancedecker Жыл бұрын
I was there, in fact I saw myself on the video. Twenty years ago now. Incredible. But what REALLY got me was firstly, the driver thought, let's see what this baby can still do and drove her hard and she took it all in her stride. But also when it got to the edge of the train shed at Picc, as you heard on this, EVERY SINGLE other train in there, saluted her with their horns, as she sadly but proudly passed into history. Not going to pretend, it got me right there on the day and still does to this day Gone, but certainly NOT forgotten. RIP Class 101's that didn't make it into preservation.

I wish they'd bring these trains back, along with other slam-doors, it beats waiting for the ticket conductors to get their payment for tickets before they open the doors, if that made sense? It's why most trains are late, the conductors too busy selling tickets, instead of letting passengers on the train.
@scottishtransportvideos2644 жыл бұрын
Ik plus’s the doors don’t get jammed
@Mgameing1234 ай бұрын
Uhh what era do you think this is? Ticket machines are pretty much at every station now. Never seen a guard sell tickets on the platform. If they do they would most likely do it on the train.
@Jadeykins834 ай бұрын
@@Mgameing123 I'll try to rephrase it, train conductors operate the doors on the trains, a lot of them, especially on northern, are too busy slowly walking down the train checking tickets, while the train is at the station, people waiting to get off or on, but can't because the conductor wont open the doors until he's checked everyones tickets. It's annoying, and there was 0 waiting with slam door trains, you could open the door yourself. I hope that makes more sense?

Amazing how long these were in service and I’m surprised that they got such a big send off. Don’t think I’ve ever been on these units when they were in service but I have rode one (or one of the other 1st gen DMU’s) in preservation. Shame the pacers didn’t get such a big send off but they were retired in the middle of COVID so maybe that is why..

because they were damn solid machines and were still perfectly capable of doing their job, an abundance of spares from the multitude of similar units withdrawn before them also kept their maintainence costs down

They were actually in service longer than the pacers. Class 101 Built: 1956 Retired: 2003 In service for 47 years. Pacers Built: 1985 Retired: 2020 In service for 35 years.
