This was a great deep dive into Mancora...I'm heading to Peru later this summer (aka Peruvian winter) and was looking for a decent-sized beach town with various entertainment and food options. From one travelogue guy to another, great job indeed! Cheers from Canada!

Several storm surge the last years has destroyed the promenade and some of the owners abandoned hotels. It is been having the last years. This abnormal rise in seawater had 3 to 5 meters high. Also floods from El Niño during 2023. Mancora is losing its splendor back 10 years ago. Where are you now in Peru ?

AHH thank you for all that information. It certainly doesn't look like it recently happened. It's a shame as it ruins the vibe. I think they should at least get rid of the sharp metal rods sticking out. Very dangerous for kids playing on the beach. But apart from that I liked Mancora, I'm no longer in Peru.

@@AronXplores All that promenade is in an incorrect place. Should be demolished completely. Probaby sooner than later some hotels are going to be taking back by mother nature. Here in Lima we did a great job depositing all the rocks from excavations onto the shore, Costa Verde. Take a look to Costa Verde 100 years ago, and how it is now. Costa Verde is 100% man-made. Did you visit some others places in Peru ?

Hi, What would you rate Malcorra out of 10? I’m thinking of going but it kinda looks abit too quiet and rundown in parts (mainly buildings/surroundings). Also if there is any, what other places would you recommend that is more holiday-esque with good nightlife, I went last year to paracas, Cusco/machu Picchu, and I’m planning going over next year in either May or September, thanks 🙂

Honestly, it really depends on what you want out of your trip. But I'll give Mancora a 6/10. The beauty, price, hotels, drinks, food, excursions etc. can't compete with the likes of Thailand and Bali, and Sri lanka in my opinion. You can see what I filmed so visually you know what it looks like (a bit run down). It's a good place if you want to chill on the beach, and go for a surf, have a coffee in the day and don't expect too much. I don't think I'd stay more than a few days. the nightlife is not very good in town. Another thing I found, the price you spend on a hotel doesn't necessarily match how good it is, just because it's right on the beach doesn't mean it's going to be better in terms of cleanliness, food, or anything else. I think of it as a place to get away from the city for the weekend. Not a full on holiday. I've not travelled much in Peru , just Mancora and Zorritos (then headed back to Ecuador). Good luck with your trip wherever you end up going.

Place is a dump. People are rude and sad. It's purely depressing. 6/10 is generous.

Sorry but Mancora is a dump even compared to 10 years ago when it was 5/10. Now it's just a slum. People rip you off constantly. The rudeness was shocking it's unbelievable when you get ice cream or buy something people can actually be that sad looking. Lots of begging. I came on business so I was forced once again to come to this $hit Hole.

Don't be sorry, It's certainly not up to normal standard, the best bit for me is the surf spot and that coffee shop. Otherwise it's way overpriced and run down compared to anywhere in south Asia.
