Ah damn, I was planning on doing a video like this myself! Regardless, it turned out better than mine would have, this was REALLY good! And I very much agree with your assessment of Mando'a having some loose Romance language influence, as a fluent speaker of two of them - just look at the words for alone, "solus" (like "solo" in Spanish) and skin, "pel'gam" (like "pele" in Portuguese). From an in-universe perspective, I'd say that could be Zygerrian influence, who seem to be heavily inspired by the Spanish Empire. Hell, they even have a jungle colony on Kowak with a palace that looks suspiciously like Maya temples.

I have my own personal observations that I'd like to put down, maybe you'd like to read it. As far as linguistic influences for Mando'a, I find the A'den (wrath) is very similar to Aiden/Aden in Gaelic (light) though they have different meanings. I have a theory that Tor (justice) is influenced by the Norse god Tyr, who was a Norse war god, heavily associated with law and order. (Tor was also another pronunciation (and name) for Thor. There's that.) I believe the Alor or more specifically the Aliit'alor (commonly referred to as an Alor) is very similar to a Jarl/Earl in both Viking and Saxon societies as they ultimately call the shots for their Clans. Vikings were heavily notorious for their raids, their most iconic feature of them was the Longship, basically a large canoe that could not only sail across the ocean but sail inland through rivers as well. They would strike fear in any settlements they raided (legend has it if the shields were on the longship, they were there to trade. If you couldn't see shields on the longship, that means you should run because they are coming to fight.) I find this very similar to the Mandalorian Basilisk War Droids of the Ancient Mandalorians who were also notorious in their own right. Vikings and Mandalorians alike were very practical people, who were known for thinking outside the box. There were times where Vikings would literally take their longship out of the water, across land just to bypass a chain hindering their boats from proceeding forward. (this was featured in the show Vikings, while this event was fictional it was inspired by a real life raid.) Anyway... those are just my personal observations and theories. As for pronunciations of Mando'a, I noticed there's a lot of varying opinions on this factor and... it's ultimately up to personal perspective.
@Manda-LORE5 жыл бұрын
Very interesting and insightful observations, thank you

@@Manda-LORE I'd also like to add that the Vikings and Jomsvikings (an elite order of Vikings alleged to have existed) not only acted as raiders and explorers, but they also hired themselves out to Christian nations as mercenaries. They were infact the preferred warriors for the Byzantine Empire's Verangian Guard... the Emperor's personal body guards (that he would also send to fight in wars abroad). I find this parallel to that of the Ori'ramikade of the Mando'ade, who have a major emphasis for mercenary work. Just... another observation of mine. I do think your observations are pretty accurate though. Many find similarities between the Spartans and the Mandalorians. I suppose the Bes'uliik makes them more akin to Mongolians because of their horses too.

@@Manda-LORE Did you see Stupendous Waves new video about George Lucus saying Boba and Jango are NOT Mandalorian? What the FÚCK!
@Manda-LORE5 жыл бұрын
@@whoami9576 I haven't seen a video but I've heard about it. My take on it is just more George Lucas mind changing (he does that a lot, case and point: countless remasters and special editions of the OT). Back when he was in control, the EU authors had to send him checklists of story elements they wanted to put in their novels, comics, and video games and he would have to check "yes" or "no" before the media could go on to get written and published. So, Jango being adopted by the Mandalorians in Jango Fett: Open Seasons and Boba being the Mand'alor of the Mandalorians in Star Wars: Legacy of the Force were all ideas that ultimately had to go through him before publishing. As far as I'm concerned, he once believed the fett's were mandalorian but he no longer does; its still canon within Legends continuity that the Fetts are mandalorian and thats all that really matters.
@XeroTenjin934 жыл бұрын
@@Manda-LORE I don't necessarily believe that was George's choice at all, honestly. I prefer to go back to your statements in other videos that George simply no longer gave a shit after Episode III was over and done with. He essentially handed the keys to the Falcon as it were over to Filoni who was then able to muck up the story however the hell he wanted. And thus the greatest perversion of Star Wars canon was enabled.

Sitting here thinking that Mandoa'de's normadic tendensies along with their warrior culture, could also be linked to the early nordics/scandinavians with their vikings being synonymus with the super-commandoes. All scandinavians were tauught the basics of self-sufficienty, ranging from farming, household(economics) to self-defence. Women had a strong presense in viking culture as the ones that held on to the riches and leading the household when the men were at raids. Vikings were also normadic with many outposts and colonies across coastal Europe (Normandy, Dublin, Danelaw), Euroasian Riverlands (Good aprt of Russia, prime example being Novgorod), Faroe Island, Iceland and Greenland and some parts of North America (Vinland). And they farmed, traded and settled as well. With whole households ready to leave an area. In addition, it was not uncommon for Vikings to adopt orphans, kin and even children, born from their wives, by another man. Leadership/Kingship was localised to clans mostly, but they did have a Jarl (earl) that would be a nominal leader, along an elder council (Iceland mostly in regards to the council). There were Kings as well, that would unite and lead from time to time. Mandalorians fit everything there as well. Even Fett, whose name comes from Vhette in the SW universe, was - if I remember correctly - old concordian for farmer and his family were farmers as well. They also lived by their ships for long stretches. There could be a nominal leader, either in form of a clan-leader, superior officer or Mandalore himself as the King symbol, with the varying degree of power over time, as you mentioned. Just my two deci-creds. Stay strong Vode.
