I'm obsessed with this and the Honey, I'm Home animatic. Something about how you draw the alternates' eyes vibes Exactly Right and I don't know if I can explain why. Something about the overlap between cartoony and surreal, maybe? Also, you music choices are perfect. This song has immediately been added to my library, a ton of my characters' playlists, and all levels of my non-specific faves playlists. Including the 'loop it 50 times and I won't get sick of it' playlist. I immediately brought this to my buddies (who I had linked to said previous animatic a week or two ago) and was like "HOLY SHIT Y'ALL THIS PERSON DID ANOTHER ONE, WITH EVEN MORE BANGER SONG." 10/10 would sub again.

@@obsidian_pr1nce That’s both really sweet and really sad! You should have a ton of views on your videos. And now I obviously have to leave a REAL comment analyzing the video :V (I started this a week or two ago on the actual comments but accidentally lost what I had written because I hit the back button, rip. I moved it to google docs so I can be sure I won’t lose it again.) So, among the many many MANY cool things you’ve done is the use of red for things, people, and events that are linked to the alternates. Alt!Cesar’s bowtie, Mark’s door, even the quotes you use- it’s such a neat thread! And because the only other color is the very sparsely used yellow, it makes it have an even stronger impact. Like, holy shit- the shots of Mark’s final moments illuminated by the red glow are HAUNTING. Speaking of things that leave an impact! The chorus is incredible. Like- the snapshots of the humans breaking down until they become red, signaling that they succumbed to the alternates? Genius. And the way you subtly accent it with the rest of the coloring of those shots; they start out white for the first two shots, then both the background and the character turn dark grey with only white highlights, and finally the background is black and the character is red. (Except for Mark, whose second shot has a light grey background, but shh) And then pairing them with an associated alternate is perfect!! They have a similar progression as ‘it’s okay’ repeats (though the coloring isn’t as consistent across their shots). But instead of it being them getting worse, the progression is of them becoming more and more powerful/inhuman. The reason why I have this song in so many playlists is, in large part, thanks to what you did for the enchante/it’s okay chorus. I can picture The Blorbos & the agents of their assorted woes in that same progression and it’s just- auugh!! It’s so GOOD!! The chorus and Mark’s final moments are the ones that have stuck with me the most. Like, I could spend forever digging into the symbolism and how well you tied the lyrics to the series- “Has nothing more to say” over the censor bar on Mark’s body is INSPIRED. Or, again, how you make the alternates feel the same level of unsettling here as they do in the series (it’s definitely the eyes + Alt!Gabriel’s smile), or just the little touches like the choice to write the “Uh Oh, Bad Decision, Mark!” yourself instead of using a font makes it that tiny bit more unsettling. But I think I’ve spent long enough slowly chewing on your incredible work. I’m so glad your “Honey, I’m Home” animatic crossed my feed, because I absolutely adore your work. It might sound a bit odd to say, but when I looked at your other videos and saw you’d done DSMP stuff, I was like “ohhh. THAT explains it!” And I mean that in the most /pos way; I’m a fan of it myself, and it seems like it’s a magnet for really skilled artists, writers, cosplayers- just creative types in general, y’know? Even if you might not be into it any more, I feel like you probably were at least a little inspired by the other fan content. If you haven’t seen SAD-ist’s work I’ll eat my hat. I got sidetracked- I’ve spent long enough thinking about it and going “man, I really need to write that up” and then not doing that. I feel like it’s the least I can do, because I know what it’s like to get a comment that goes really in depth to your work. It’s the absolute best thing and I want to give you that spark of joy, too. Thank you so much for creating this and sharing it with us.

But I hope it'll be just as detailed and nice to the viewers eyes :) I actually think my art is heavily inspired from SAD-ist, at least the eyes. Watching her work inspired me so much. Seeing the creations that came out of the DSMP pushed me to do what I am doing now. But mostly her. Of course mine is more gorey/twisted but its just my own cynical personality burying itself in my art. Thank you for this though, it really puts into perspective of what is enjoyed in my work. Although a few things are very inconsistent I do have the brain of a worm and this took me around 40hrs. So ofc course some things will be a little inconsistent. Do you have an instagram btw? It's one of my favorite things, because like I said-- the sheer dose of serotonin from when I've been on the other end is unparalleled. I can't wait to see what you have in store, though don't be afraid to go at your own pace! Burnout is a real risk with creative stuff, and I have to imagine it's even more of a threat with something as intricate as an animatic. Yeah, I can totally see what you mean! It's obviously not a 1:1, but you have similar vibes. No I cannot describe exactly what that means, just that it sometimes gives me a similar feeling. Oh, god, yeah. The woes of working on something over a long span; you get more time to refine the piece, but you also end up with some jank from your style evolving over the course of the project. No instagram, but I do have a tumblr and AO3? Though I'm pretty much entirely DSMP focused because that's where my blorbos originate. Though some are verging into OC territory; vaguely eldritch and very alien roleswap Purpled & "pet" horrorterror not-dog DogChamp are fun! As are roleswap Dream and his (adopted) horrible gremlin sons that he loves very much. DayDream my beloved, second only to the Tommy I affectionately call bastard lad. He's awful and I love him for that. My creative endeavor of choice is fic, if you can't tell! I can sometimes corral my muse into letting me Words Good, but it's a perpetual battle. Uh, all that to say that I wouldn't blame you for not deciding to follow me if you're entirely checked out of DSMP stuff. It's 98% of what I reblog and create. Hyperfixation real and true! There are so many good DSMP artists. The fandom might be... the way it is (/neg), but there's such a wealth of skill that it blows my mind. And there's always kind people to balance out the. THIS IS AMAZING WHAT- It’s insane to see your improvement between ur three Mandela catalogue animatics, every single one of them has increased in quality in literally every area! The storytelling of this is awesome, and I love how the events of the story were told in a sequential order so that even if you didn’t know the series, you could watch this and still know what was going on. Another thing I really liked that you did was the repeated animation of the characters getting more and more degraded every time it said “Enchanté”, having a repeating element throughout the video gave it a great sense of cohesion, definitely taking notes for my own animatics on that lmao. Overall an incredible job, I love your art style a ton and keep up the good work :)

Okay, a very specific praise: the two-frames-alternating technique you use to mimic the VHS quality pulls a SUPERB double duty here, as you keep using it to add powerful ambiguity to a lot of shots, as expressions change so subtly. At 2:13 it seems to imply that the guy on the left's awareness is a secret, as he only looks over at the camera when the other guy's eyes are closed, but I may be reading too much into that, I'm not caught up on the Catalogue. But most key: at 4:29 you specifically can't tell whether Lucifer is smiling or frowning, and that hits HARD. Also, your art style makes the distorted figures WAY more scary than the liquify-tool-spam of the original videos, so kudos to that.
