Wow I love the knowledge you share about the nodes, stems, and propagation wow that milky substance is toxic
@redsoilgardener Жыл бұрын
It is toxic, just use gloves and avoid you pets from chewing leaves etc. when dealing with this beautiful plant. I have so many toxic plants in the garden and sometimes I forget to wear gloves and I am fine. I suppose it really if you are sensitive to the sap.

Hi sorry for late response as I am out of country. With the Mandeville, the reason could be that you may have under watered the plant of over watered. It normally like moist soil. Do the finger test and check that the soil is moist. Also if you overwater then leaves will also turn yellow and you may get root rot. My advise do the finger test moist and not soggy. If you have a further problem please feel free to contact me. Happy gardening.

😮Alice, if I do that procedure to a Poinsettia stem, will it possibly root as well!?
@redsoilgardener Жыл бұрын
Yes, take a firm healthy stem cutting about 4 inches long. Try to get a cutting that has no flower. Remove some of the leaves below but leaving some at the top for photosynthesis. Cut just below the node making sure you have two nodes left on the stem. Make sure that your soil is well draining using either perlite, vermiculite or sandy soil in your potting soil medium. Place the stem in the soil ensuring the nodes are submerged. Keep the cutting in indirect light ( I sometimes use my kitchen for propagation as the light is diffused and there is warmth, which is great for propagation). Keep the soil moist and keep checking after three to four weeks. Let me know how it goes.

When is the best time to do this dear?
@redsoilgardener Жыл бұрын
Hi, it's always better to take cuttings and propagate in Spring. This is because the plants starts its new growth and it will root faster.
