Hi, when you were trimming the soundboards with the router, I would add text that you ran the router backwards to keep from tearing the snot out of the wood like it would hitting "into" the grain if you ran it foward.

That's a good point, and it is something that is explained in the instructions that come with the kit. Thanks for watching!

Very interesting if you are involved in some kind of lutherie project. Thank you.

I enjoyed watching this video. Especially fitting the neck. That's something I struggle with a lot. But why is everything so thick? The instrument would resonate better, if certain parts would be thinner --> bridge, neck for example.

Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed the video. The kit provided all the parts so I built what was provided. I assume someone with more luthier knowledge than myself could reduce/change the sizes of certain parts. This being the first Mandola I've ever built I wasn't comfortable making any large changes so just went with what felt comfortable to me.

@@ckmworks3509 Ok! Thanks for the infos! What I like to do when I build new parts is to look up original measurement and build close to that. If it works, then I have learned something, if not I've learned something also ;)!

Been thinking about adding a mandola and glad I stumbled onto this video. Just wondering how you finished the woods? Say the can of Minwax stain. I'm refinishing my mandolin top and don't necessarily want to use laquor or poly. Was thinking of just staining and maybe a wax? Not concerned about a hard finish to prevent small dings. Any comments would be appreciated.

Hey, in the instructions for the kit I used they lay out a number of different options from using stains (which they don't really recommend), Oils, Polys, or Laquers. I think if you want to avoid using laquer or poly I would go with a Danish Oil for the finish. It will likely give a nice warm look and is easy to apply. However, it doesn't provide much protection (which may not be a concern). My hesitation with a wax finish would be that over time it will dry and rub away so I think you'll end up needing to do it again periodically. An oil finish should last a lot longer, but can always be refreshed in the future if you want. Hope that helps!

@@ckmworks3509 Thank you for the reply. I'm leaning towards boiled Linseed oil with Anilised dye to tint. Either that or Tung with tint to get a richer honey tone. Will look into Danish as well. Not concerned about dings as much on a mandolin.
