So you finally get to see my staining process. Notice I am using DARK BROWN. At least that is what the bottle says. Wait for it.... Support: / rosastringworks Website: www.rosastring...

Having seen all the vlogs, I can't help but smile every time i hear the word "brown" coming up. That said, the output is nothing short of a gorgeous color scheme.

Having played with all kind of stains for over 40 years, I think you have done a stunning stain job so far and I would not change anything. Keep in mind that depending on what type of vanish you choose for your finish coat, it may also add a yellow hue to the existing colour which will make the final colour beautiful. Awesome work!

Ha! You see a grumpy snowman but when you first applied the stain, the first thing I saw was a dragonfly. Perfect Rorschach test.

As i said the first time. That red mandolin is the prettiest one you've ever made. Leverbe son! Now I'd thinking about making sure the sound it's producing is as sweet as it can be. Watching you with this tight-turn and your CA glue, and safety glasses, i sit here in absolute awe. Your negativity is really a fake, It's like you cant believe in your own abilities, and your OCD won't let you enjoy your work until it's perfectly done. This job is tough because it's not for a client, it's for you. I wonder do you ever not hate your work when it's for you.

Jerry, I’m not saying this because I want you to feel good, out of pity, or because I’m just invested in this being good because I’ve been following it or because I see how hard you’re working: The finish is beautiful and it’s better than any I’ve ever seen on a mandolin, and rivals that of almost any I’ve seen on any instrument period. Truly, I think it’s greater than the same old dark brown sunburst that everyone does. It’s reminiscent of, but better than the Sienna Sunburst color that Fender was using on some guitars back in 2008-2012 or so. This is like that, but better than that, sincerely.

I absolutely love the color of your mandolin, I can’t imagine anything nicer. You’ve achieved a one of a kind color for a one of a kind instrument which in my opinion is perfectly fitting and illustrates your superb workmanship and diligence. Awesome job.

Neat binding work with the tire - rubber - band "clamp". I love how stain brings out the wood grain. Gibson used to charge extra for the amber sunburst Les Paul's which were my favorite... So I am biased towards that color choice looks great. Keep Smiling Adam

Hi Jerry; Anyone who has done even a little work on instruments knows how difficult it can be to try to get the result that you want. We also know what it's like to have to go back and fix the things that didn't turn our just rignt. From what I have seen you are a master at getting the right result and fixing the places where you didn't get a perfect result. At this point your mandolin is beautiful. However; it's like a diamond in the rough, you have to be able to see in your mind what the finished product will look like to appreciate it's beauty. Ten thumbs up. Prayers that your skilled hands will hold out a while longer. We love seeing what they can build and repair. And not just instruments. Keep on turckin my friend.

That’s a lovely looking mandolin Jerry. I love your channel and watching you work. I don’t have a clue in the world with luthier skills, I just love watching someone who can. I’m just a frustrated guitar player with a guitar channel that wished he could do things like some fret work for example. I can do minor adjustments like truss rod and intonation but that’s about it. Hope your arthritis issues can at the very least not get any worse and you’re still able to produce these great videos because I know you love doing what you do.

Hi Jerry. As you use CA glue from the container something has to take its place and that is air. Air contains moisture or water vapor. This moisture reacts with the CA glue producing the bond (adhesion) and carbon dioxide gas which pressured the container.

I'm one of the 9 out of 10 who said to leave it as it was. My only caveat to that was the way you would think of it in future. I would hate to think that every time you look at it your first response would be "It looks nice, but it's not what I was going for!" If you can get to accept what we've said, and believe that it looks stunningly beautiful then good! If you can't believe that, then you need to go one of the other routes (sand off and start again or darken the edges with brown/black/green dye). Fortunately it looks like you've come round to our way of thinking and left well alone!! Again, it looks BEAUTIFUL SO LEAVE IT ALONE!!

As a cabinet maker i love these videos, in this particular video, rather than spray it then scrape it all off from around the edges, i would have thought fine lining tape covering the edges you dont want sealer or glue on on, would save you an aweful lot of scrapeing work, and IMHO steaming the wood binding would work much better, and makes timber very pliable, and much less likely to break, superb job overall though!

Maybe the old dark brown bottle drifted over the years? I made scale models of airplanes and the like for years before I got into lutherie and getting the alcohol based acrylics to the right consistency was a constant struggle because every time you open the bottle a bunch evaporates, and every time you leave the bottle closed some also finds its way out! And that was just over 4 or 5 years on some colors, without any organic compounds reacting to make the color itself change rather than just the concentration.

You want to make it the WFMEBBAH so the reddish colour helps distinguish it from other mandolins. :) I'm not a big fan of the sunburst look. I wish somebody would make a mandolin that doesn't look sad. It's such a happy shape, and the yellow is happy. Why couldn't the darker color be an orange/red or orange . . . or even a pretty green fading to bright orange. I like that it's lighter than most mandolins. It's pretty. You could even gold leaf the rose instead of making it yellow.

Ya know, we had a parish monsignor who had a hobby of making custom curled staffs for other priests. He bent the wood, sometimes very thick woods using a 3-4" PVC pipe with caps on both ends and he pumped in steam to make the wood flexible and once he bent the wood he left it in the 3" container until it cooled down and then the staffs hardened up the way he bent them ready for finishing. I wonder if you made something smaller if you could put in the small pieces of wood to steam up while you are working and then be able to bend it to any shape you want. Just a thought.

Love your videos!!! Very informative and very well done. Suggest you read the story of Job in the Bible. Note that one of his final comments was that what he feared had come upon him. He also commented that he should put a guard on his mouth (so that in the future he would not speak negative things into his life). If you listen to your videos, you will note that you often speak negative things about what you expect to happen in your own life. I'm a firm believer that my words are powerful and they release both positive and negative situations into my life too, so I am careful about what comes out of my mouth. (Not a complaint...just a suggestion.😊) Have a wonderful and blessed life.
