Baron, Thanks again for another great video. Equating the note name letters to the to scale degree is making my brain explode. I seem to forget the order of the alphabet when I'm figuring out what note comes next. My brain is connected to what note on the staff in played by which finger on the violin. However this is very limiting for me, because it only works in the first position. I learned a great beginner tip recently for the chord (scale) degrees. Use your left hand, the root (1) is on your thumb, your pinky is 5, the ring finger is 4. It's a quick way to figure chords or intervals. (Being a programmer I'm always confused with zero based arrays and wanted to count the first step in the scale as 1 thinking the root was 0) We're lucky on the mandolin and violin family to have the 5ths given to us for at least the first three keys G, D & A. It's also a handy way to remember key signatures. C no sharps, we don't have a C string, hence no sharps G one sharp # lowest string D two sharps ## A three sharps ### E four sharps ####

Good point. I never thought about associating the strings with the number of sharps in those keys.

I really needed to brush up on recognizing intervals. Haven’t worked on it since college in the 70’s! Thank you!
