That statement makes me think he's got an enabling mother behind him. So often with these shitbags, the parents excuse the kid's bad behavior with that old "he's a good kid but he always falls in with a bad crowd". Meanwhile, the kid has been the ringleader of all the trouble he's ever gotten in. Mothers do this way more than fathers. That's why he whipped out the old "I gotta stay away from the bad people", pretending he only does bad things when influenced by others. So were these magical others in the bathroom with him that night when he raped the woman? Nope. That was all him.

They have 24/7 365 X however many years..they have time to think up methods that real people don’t have time to test. I’m sure there are other methods they have Just a theory. Usually if it’s too watery it’s from adding water but could by from overhydrating. Since her assault, she has been diagnosed with cpstd, severe anxiety and depression, one suicide attempt, and has zero social life bc she never wants to leave the house bc shes afraid she'll see him in public. It has damaged her so severely that its too much for her mentally and emotionally to even think about going to the police and having to relive all the horrible details over and over to whatever detectives, DA, lawyers, etc are involved. I feel like coming forward would do more damage at this point. She refuses therapy, and now that she's a legal adult, I cannot make her do it. I hope one day she can be strong enough to put that monster where he belongs. And god help him if i ever find him.

I was 14, myself. If she doesn't want to come forward - for whatever reason - I would educate myself the best I can on the reality of the situation in your particular city and state and the circumstances and if she's basing that fear upon something that is a result of someone lying to her or fearmongering, I would try to somehow gently give her opportunity to easily access that information... But I'm feeling the her fears of the proceedings aren't without merit, unfortunately... No-one should be subjected to this,no one. I don't know your daughter but I'm really, really, really holding on my hope for her. Healing takes time and people do it in different ways,in different intervals. If she's anything like me, what has helped me is trying to regain my authority over my body, trying to regain the feeling that I'm safe - that *I* can protect me. I started getting into martial classes, I took up some shitty workout routine for "Hopeful Navy SEAL candidates" from early 2000s internet (... not the best choice, but a goal is good, concrete) and some such. I met awesome people in my "senior" krav maga class and they made me pretty realistic ballistic gel dummies with some bones of dubious origin and film blood and just let me at them, allowing me to scream at them what I felt when they did.. things and what I hope they are feeling now by the end of it we were all mauling a pile of Jello and my friend noticed that one of the plastic skulls had writings from students, one was girl's name with a heart next to it...and I just started laughing at the absurdity. My friend wheezed "oh no, grandma (she had a grandmother with similar name to one written) , I didn't know you did stunt work". And the intensity of it all came out of my body in this maniacal laughter and took some of my terror with it. It was absurd and gross and someone will criticise me for promoting violence against men or whatnot but this symbolic revenge got me back to the land of living and if these friends were still alive, I would continue to thank them for it at least weekly. I hope your daughter has good friends, genuinely good people friends, even if she alienated them in her grief. Do they know, do you know if they know? Maybe your daughter, too, needs to "get it out of her system", in a way? Maybe she feels she's constantly sanitising her words and feelings and experiences because of people's judgement and poorly timed, worded, unempathetic comments about "forgiveness", "moving on" or "other people suffer too" and other some such dismissive bullshit. Maybe she needs to not only learn how to kick ass to feel more secure (and remember, physical activity is a great way to reconnect with your body, to be conscious of your movement without it feeling like a therapy) but also, to just scream and wail at something and say out loud that she wishes that the piece of shit that hurt her that he rots alive and that he can feel maggots eating his insides till the day he dies in own excrement ...with people there withp her who will validate her feelings and cheer her on as she releases her anger? No judgement, without any toxic positivity and healing and whatnot. At least get a punching bag she could tape his resemblance. It's A OK not to want to delve on the academic discourse and understanding the perpetrator is a faulty human in society that enabled this for centuries and it's okay to feel unable to get up and contribute to that fight as a survivor. It's okay to be pissed off, mistrustful and mean. Not everyone has to find peace and healing and "grow from the trauma" instantly like social media seems to condition especially young women to do. My generation was just supposed to keep quiet, least our suffering embarrasses our family or out their honour into question. Both are shitty but with so much social media presence in young people's lives, perhaps that outside scrutiny and gossip is a part of why she withdrew from life?. I would bring that subject up, as discreetly as possible to see if perhaps other people's expectations of her, their gossip and questions are weighting in on her heart too. Maybe, gently, piece by piece you could uncover all of them and out them together. Maybe there's a survivor group she could connect with or you could ask her to go to self defense classes because you, yourself, are feeling afraid and powerless and it would make you feel less anxious to go if she went? Could you,or her with someone close and trusted, move, move far enough so she doesn't have to worry about seeing him for a while? The longer she continues to isolate, the more difficult it's going to be for her. Or, you know, perhaps it could be arranged for someone to take her rapist where he belongs, which is to the afterlife..? I'm only joking...kind of. Did she tell you what was the most difficult for her, was it the injustice or the feelings of guilt for being unable to "prevent him from hurting someone else"? Does she blame herself for whatever part of what happened (wearing skirt, wearing pants, being white, not being white - women have been blamed and shamed for "contributing" to our assault and we do internalise that, unfortunately, for it to haunt us in our darkest moments). Is she feeling ashamed of "missing out on life"? Not keeping up with lifestyles of people from school who are unaware of what happened, about them having theories? ( It may sound odd but I'm not "a people person" or particularly interested in "keeping up the appearances" but these were the things *I* worried about, no matter how much I tried denying it then... can't imagine how difficult it would be now with social media). I wish I had my mom help me then and care, like you care for her. I know you two can tackle this, that with time the visceral pain will let up enough that you two can, together (but, hopefully in the future - with a good therapist versed in subject and a support group alongside her) start disassembling the slow ticking bomb of torment and grief and fear and shame and pain and guilt that he left her with. I know you will succeed. There will come a time when she realises that she's ready to call herself a survivor and I hope you get to celebrate that day together as soon as possible. ❤❤

I tell you it boils my blood!!! He should get no protection his victim didn't, he should get put into general population in prison so he can feel what it's like to be the prey. His initial comments, in response to his victim’s statement, told us all we need to know about this man. He is completely indifferent to the suffering he has caused that woman; he’s forgiven himself, so she needs to “move on”. Only when the Parole Board administrator rebuked him did he suddenly go all “oh, boo-hoo, I’m so sorry, I wish I’d got the death penalty, blah, blah”. He will only ever say what he thinks will go down best for his chances of parole. And quite frankly, that he was allowed to plead to “attempted” SA, when he actually committed the assault - not to mention he’s able to request parole 10 months into his sentence - proves that he is unlikely to learn anything from the justice system, or have any incentive to reform.

That poor victim. He should be kept under the prison for the atrocities he perpetrated on this woman. Let him do life. He’s an unrepentant monster. How dare he address the victim like this. Outrageous. He doesn’t get to explain anything to her

That is torture for her. She will never heal, the wounds are being torn open every 2 years and 1 month. It would have been easier for her had she just moved away and never said anything - like most women do. She is beyond brave. Her living hell, Sentenced over and over, 2 years, 1 month 2 years, 1 month Repeat, Remember, Repeat, A victims demise, Ticking away, 2 years, 1 month, 2 years, 1 month.

He basically was saying, it's no big deal get over it. What a sick twisted animal, and to have to come in every two years and face that monster infuriates me. What the! 10 months, 10 MONTHS!!!!! And she has to come in and make a case to defend herself and try and keep him in prison. I'm so furious right now. The laws need to change, the victims need to have more rights, and not be put through cruel unnecessary trauma. Ridiculous!

It was very passive aggressive of him to throw in he needs a prostate check. That’s to re-traumatize the victim into flashing back to his member and the other two. He could’ve kept that to himself; it’s typically just a wellness check. What a disgusting POS!

Yeah I noticed that too. I thought that was a pretty weird and disgusting thing to say. It's not like he is even that old either. Most men his age would not have been worrying about that at that age. I am pretty sure he isn't either. He just had to throw that in there because he wanted to be able to say something that would remind her of his disgusting crimes.

Exactly, that was sick and manipulative of him. Disgusting sociopath attacking the victim in every way he can. He should serve life in prison. He wouldn't understand how the victim feels unless it happened to himself. He doesnt respect women unless they have authority over him. Throw away the key

it looks like he spent nearly two years in jail before sentencing(690 days). It is probably just an automatic referral. No way this guy should get paroled.

Sounds like he has learnt nothing about respect for meaning of 'consent' or empathy for his victim. He is simply saying what he feels he needs to be free. No sir, you deserve to serve every day and more.

while better mental institutions are sorely needed, this man does not qualify. he's a predator and makes decisions while fully cognizant of what he's doing. don't conflate the two, it minimizes them both

I had the opportunity to confront the man who SA me as a child for over a year and he basically had the same attitude. Seemed shocked it still affected me so many years later and proceeded to tell me how they gave him a hard time crossing the border due to his conviction. Then went on about a horrible car accident his daughter was in years ago and all his health issues. I was dumb founded. He made it all about him.
