The mechs in my opinion make more sense than the micro fighters. The micro fighters are neat but cannot really be used in play with anything other than a micro fighter. While a mech could be like 1 or 2 with a battalion of troopers. I am talking about the trooper Mech obviously. And if they did a clone mech and a rebel trooper but also a mandalorian mech they would easily be fitting. As a bunch of them or just 1 with a whole troop of figs in a battle.

It seems like the sub-theme is evolving on it's own. And the design team is having fun with it. I suspect we might get different types of mechs like I expect a brown mech for Chewbacca which would be more like a character mech, like the Boba Fett and Vader one. While a Tie Pilot mech would again be more of a vehicle based mech. It would even be fun to see a Clone Tanker mech with a ATTE cannon over the shoulder. But I am not sure how to achieve that with a recognizable look as well as having the stability within the price range.

So everyone is complaining about the micro fighter ywing with captain Rex and how they bought the figure off of eBay or bricklink thinking that the figure would be exclusive to the venator. However I have heard no one complaining about the Luke skywalker keychain and how you can swap the arms and legs with a different pilot Luke to get that ucs version. It kind of makes me feel that a lot of lego Star Wars fans have a prequel bias when looking at Lego’s products and only make complaints when they think lego have wronged their favorite character/era of Star Wars but don’t hold to the same scrutiny when talking about a different character or era.

I feel the mechs are a good thing. Especially for kids to play with. The Luke Mech is a good one to have vs the Darth Vader one. If we get another mech or 2, I would actually suspect a Chewbacca mech and a Rebel trooper mech. Down the line they could do a regular Clone trooper and a Droid mech. That would be wild... Because how would a Droid mech look like since it already is a droid... And they could do variants for Rex or Cody with blue and orange trim. As for Jedi's well a Mace Windu Mech with purple saber would be really cool. Yoda with greens and tans.

I didn't know about this mech series, but going forward having characters in their "transformable" vehicles is exactly where they need to be. It's much more imaginative than just a mech suit version of the character. From the box art of Luke's mech there's a shooped shadow under the main part of the chestplate that looked like a scoop or vent. That would be so Gundam and I'm disappointed that it's not really there. Still, I'm picking one up. Who needs lunch anyways?

@@MandRproductions my opinion is that originally Rex was exclusive when they designed the instructions booklet for the Venator, and they later decided to make the microfighter but it was too late to change the booklet. But I guess the only people who know are Lego themselves and they’ll never reveal the truth. On a separate topic do you have any thoughts on/plan to review the Barad Dur set that got announced recently?

So many great ideas left on the table. Give it a basic transformation function and you have a microfighter/mech. I'm not talking Transformer level of complexity, but Swing a cockpit here, tuck the legs in there. And just Luke? How about Fennec Shand but giver a cool Mulan sword? Or a Darth Maul with spider legs for the lower half? Or how about R2 in a C-3PO mech and 3PO in an R2 mech. Sad!

Lego chooses the cheapest fig in production, The Rex Y-wing has UCS Rex because he’s the only Rex in production while the X-wing Mech has normal Luke cause the cheapest fig in production is from the 2020 at-at Luke not the UCS X-wing Luke.

Not quite, both the 2020 ATAT and 2021 X-Wing are now retired. It is however the same body/legs (different head) than the 2021 UCS AT-AT.
