Like, I don't want to overhype, but this set is pretty much everything you could possibly ask for as a five-oh-first fan. All the Minifigures are Troopers, there's no Jedi, the builds are pretty much what you'd want scale wise, and best of all it comes with actual blasters! What's not to love?

Only reason I’m not getting this set is because the 501st minifigs are updated clone wars versions from I believe the 2013 wave. If you compare them to the 2014 phase 2 clone printing from the kashyyyk and utapau troopers battle packs, the difference is subtle but definitely shows unfortunately...

The reason for the extra figures and vehicles is due to Lego wanting the set to be the best for fans, not cause of wanting people to pay more. Lego very likely has a policy that regular battlepacks MUST have stud-shooters included, and so to bypass that policy, Lego added some extra content and increased the price so the set technically isn't a battlepack anymore, so they could include regular blasters cause they know how much their target audience for this set hates stud-shooters. It all makes sense.

Initially I was annoyed with the price increase but they've padded the set out with the two builds (of which the AT-RT is huge in comparison to battle pack walkers we have had in the past) and the battle droids as well. Now that I look at the 501 walker it looks great! Before I thought it was too big but when I see it by the minifigures then realized. You also have to remember, minifigures proportions are really different, so it’s hard to make stuff the perfect scale. Love that they downscaled the walker.
