So you have your own personal Horror Festival, too! I've done mine at least 15 years. I always include Rocky Horror because it is such a celebration of the genre and the fans who love it. I make it either the opening or the conclusion of the festival as a nice way of tying everything together. I try to include the obscure, underground and the grindhouse I used to watch in the Grinds of old Times Square. You can't beat that for atmosphere. Lately I have started to include ARG, Backrooms, Red Room Torture, spooky Tik Tok, and other cyber offerings. Its a whole new frontier in Horror, I feel. As time goes on I'd like to include vintage TV like Karloff's old show. I am torn between Blair, the Exorcist and The Shining as my favorite of all time. Soon I'll add Eyes Wide Shut after my first seeing it, I am sure. Room 1413 ? with Samuel Jackson and John Cusack is another fave. Not to mention the original Dead movie. There are so many others I try to include each year. I think Rob Zombie's is an incredible, nascent talent, perhaps the savior of the genre.

Paranormal Activity, the first movie, I went to the opening at the theater with a girl, after the movie she cried for an hour, I thought she was having a mental break. It freaked her out so much. She calmed down eventually, but when Paranormal Activity came out, people were crapping themselves.

I never trust a person who likes Blair witch lol. You have a lot of found footage films on this list so I am guessing you are a big fan of those, myself not so much I don't hate them but it's very rare for them to make me not think yeah this was done cheaply, and had nothing real to show which I think Blair is prime example of that along with of course the first paranormal activity. Ginger snaps is my cult one that and Jennifer's body are just two I have to watch every year. Seriously wish they made another kind of these films. The Empty Man somehow escaped me ever hearing of it sounds alright so I will add that to my list on Halloween.
@mandysmorgueofhorror Жыл бұрын
Ohhh yes, I love found footage! I know they’re not everyone’s vibe. I just love how if done well they can really put you in the protagonist’s shoes and sometimes they can make me feel claustrophobic and on edge. And Blair Witch just holds a special place in my heart. Hope you enjoy Empty Man!

@@mandysmorgueofhorror Idk if you ever seen Cam but that film is one that got me when it comes to putting myself in their shoes. I remember watching it thinking it was going to be bad, but very quickly the film proved me wrong and made me feel that way about it. It's extremely rare for me to be unsettled by a film but that did it.
@markbrowning4334 Жыл бұрын
Just watched Cobweb. I have mixed feelings on this one. I'm kind of done with the weird preadolescent male protagonist trope, but the misdirection this movie uses with it gives this criticism a pass. Same with the jacked up parents. I was ready to throw in the towel early with this movie, but it switched things up and saved itself. I'd give the atmosphere a thumbs up, but whispering and mumbling tones and dimly lit rooms have been done to death. The monster/antagonist was interesting enough, however the finale following the exhibition she puts on doesn't jive with me. They overpowered her only to have her easily defeated. If anyone wants to just chalk it all up to metaphor, it fails because the boy is left as a prisoner to the threat by the time the credits roll. Worst part of the movie is the damn substitute teacher. This might be the most forced character in the history of filmmaking. We are snow shovel fed this character The movie demands that we not only accept her, but like her as well. She earns nothing, but just arrives at everything by only simply existing. I get it......its 2023 and the whole world needs to understand that black women are above and beyond all else, but at least make her annointed existence earned. They didn't. She is, therefore we must accept. Overall, not a terrible horror flick. A classic? Not in a million.
