I was 15 when I first heard this in 1975. This track and this album changed my music taste forever. I have seen MMEB live many times over the years, but disappointingly never heard them play this live. It is a solid gold classic which I still listen to regularly.

Me too!!! Same age, but this was my very first concert over 50 years ago; Summer of 1974. Saw them live at the Spectrum in Philly. Climax Blues Band was the opener, followed by MMEB and Uriah Heap as the Headlining act. Stoned as I was I think that they played this one.

My favourite song from an awesome album. I bought this when it came out - mainly because the cover promised every purchaser a square foot of land in Wales for free - with a deed and everything - I was only about 13 and I thought that was weird and cool. Anyway, I lucked out as it's a great record. Did you know the drummer - Chris Slade - went on to play for AC/DC for a while? Now that is weird ... and cool, I guess.

Slade is great drummer, regardless of the style he plays. AC/DC members referred him as "the most professional musician in the band"

@@awaken77 Cool. His 16th-note hi-hat beat on 'Fire Your Guns' is impressive. You can hear him doing the same thing right at the beginning of this track, but keeping that up for a whole song, with heavy cymbal accents is a technique that is beyond my capability. I've been asked to do it on two-minute punk songs, but I would use a finger technique or my hand would seize up. Slade seems to be able to power through it on skill and sheer forearm strength.

Great song and a solid album. I used to have it on vinyl and it came with the legal deed to a square foot of land in Wales! It is available on CD, but it's rare. I have it, but it desperately needs a good remastering, so my advice is to wait and see.

@sfxavier Yes. The first song on the album starting with a rooster crowing is called "Give Me the Good Earth". I recently met Gary Wright (the Dream Weaver) and asked him if he was the same Gary Wright that wrote that song, and (duh) yes, he did. This song, Earth Hymn, is by Mann and Slade. Still have the vinyl (my first LP) with corners cut off the sleeve; mailed off to own a sq. foot of Wales. Both songs are some of the first music I ever heard in stereo headphones. What great memories.

This record is one of the best records ever made in this genre. It's a powerful, yet subtile and psychedelic masterpiece. I'm still very impressed by it, 28 years after its release. Yes the years with Chris Thompson was also interesting, many great songs, but the artistic and creative hights from this record i beleive they never quite succeeded in matching on later efforts.
