Yesss, join us in the Treefrey zone!! (This video popped up for me and I always love hearing about the theories). There's actually a lot of slightly-different variations under the Treefrey banner from what I've seen (or... written lol). I am also so suspicious about the Ezrest royals and I love the specific things you pointed out here!! I am pretty :// about the clear difference in translation meaning there was some... sloppiness in picking the language. From people who speak Japanese, iirc, the original line is about his eyes? So the "visage" thing being in the official translation does make it pretty frustrating. BUT!! I'd not revisited my theory thoughts for a while but this video made the connection click for me: With the comment from Qifrey about Coustas' eyes lightening, it makes me think Qifrey's also lightened as a result of the experiment done on him (which we know he has some memory of now) and he's become aware of another Brimhat that had the same thing done to them? Given Qifrey's eyes are a pale blue, I'm wondering if they're... a little silver? Which is now making me wonder about Tartah's condition and his proximity to the silverwood tree growing up (could that have affected his vision, especially given the "blood" of the tree is poisonous to humans?). Much to think about!! I love how it's so clear that Something Is Wrong With Olruggio. I won't spoil for the stuff that's not in volumes yet, but we get a little glimpse at what it was (I won't say which chapter it is but I'm fairly sure it's not in Vol13). His little bonus chapter and the focus on not being able to save anyone has been making me crazy ever since I read it though. Especially with Qifrey ensuring Olruggio won't be able to try to "save" him. Coco's dad I don't know how to feel about - I tend to dislike twist reveals of characters being Secretly Alive And Around if we have no attachment to their personality or face. Coco's mum does say "lost your father to illness" which seems very much like he died. Him not being around is important for the emotional weight of Coco trying out magic and "leaving her mum alone" which she promises not to do, which feels on its own to be enough. However... if we at any point get info about Coco's dad, especially from her POV? I'm gonna presume he's coming back somehow. I think his not being around functions enough as a "Coco and her mum are particularly close" beat and Coco focusing on her mum is just.... stronger. But then again, Shirahama could pull something crazy good

Another thing that's crazy about the Qifrey tree symbolism is that him and Olruggio match symbols in the folk tale (about the tree and the star). Of course Qifrey has the tree symbols, but Olruggio also gets more discrete star symbolism visually and in words because he's called the "star of Godley" multiple times. I find it so interesting and I really hope we get to see more about that because I can't predict where it's going at all. I'm so curious about it

I actually named my cat Clare after the main character in Claymore 😆 So many great female characters in this manga!

Have you read the Witch Hat Atelier Kitchen series? Wonder if it would be recommended for those who love the main series.

Claymore is "shounen" for the simple fact it is published in a shounen-targeted magazine (Jump SQ). Shounen, just like YA, is a reader demographic and not a genre per se. There is very little difference in the choice of subject matter in shounen and seinen titles. For example, AoT is shounen while Golden Kamuy is seinen. The main difference, in my opinion, is the heavier use of Kanji and lower reliance on furigana (annotated readings) in the latter. Anywho, I think you should review it in chunks since it's a relatively long read. Skip the anime though since it diverges at the end (it sorely needs a remake).

Will you do a video on Feel-Good Books in the future?

I need to read Claymore myself. I fell in love with the anime a few years ago when i watched it for the first time, and wanted more of the world and characters because of how it ended somewhat abruptly from being rushed near the end. (It's shonen yes)
