Here's how I started to learn how to layout my manga pages. it's a technique I used to understand and explore how I wanted to layout my page and get the size and portions of the characters and backgrounds.

So the smaller the head is drawn the more detail has to be left out, right?

Yeah, I am guessing your using that page paper with the idea to shrink it down aswell? Looking at manga is a great way to see how they adapt the details to show it's that character with the expressions they want to portay

I would say play around and find a level of detail your happy with. The Loomis , sail and cube methods will allow you to make sure the details you want to use will be in the correct place.

That’s the problem I’ve been having when I draw the character smaller I don’t know how to maintain the features so that it still looks like the same character with less details
