Raising someone like a Child, only to fall in love with them, does feel squicky to me. But I decided to go through with it for two reasons. One - They weren't related in any way, since it was his friends' Daughter. And 2 - They waited till she graduated College, so while there is a Major age gap, they are both grown adults, and he made her be apart from him to help her sort her feelings (as well as his own) before committing to a relationship. I still don't 100% like this kind of story, and I don't blame anyone else for not being ok with this, but this was likely the only way a story like this could be told without crossing the line completely. At least they didn't make it like he groomed her to be his wife when she grew up. That's just wrong! Yui is probably the most selfish character in this story, but you can't blame her either.

I think that Usagi Drop did a GREAT job of showing exactly how incredibly wrong the whole thing is. I don't know if that was the mangaka's goal in particular, but literally everyone I know -- myself included -- found the pivot of the relationship into romance to be stomach-churning. The same here. It's not at all fine to marry the child you raised. Even if it is legal under the law, it's both immoral and unethical.
