Mango Variety Update (June 10, 2020)

Thanks for showing the varieties of Mangos. Often, we are in tropical Mexico where there's zillions of mango trees in orchards - sometimes we skip the roadside sales and drive into the jungle where there are trees - huge trees loaded with mangos and the trees are so productive, too. We'd pick a bushel basket and have enough for a month, but the car, house and maybe we, too, smell of mangos.

I've seen trees in Brazil so huge they are bigger than a mansion. Seems like one tree can feed the entire community. In Mexico, the poor indians live off the mango trees - lots to eat and it's all free.

Great video! I wish I had a property full of mango trees like yours ! Anyway, I am interested in purchasing a 'Kathy K-3' mango. Do you know of anyone that sells it ? If not, are any of Kathy's siblings just as good or better ?

I have an Osteen, potted with 2 hanging top branches.It actually gave fruit my second year of ownership and this is my third. I live in the eastern Portugal. I have two Mango fruits that survived this time out of 8, only one last year. I have root shoots coming from the bottom. Shall I take them away or let them be part of a bushy tree? Shall I prune the tree right after I have picked the fruit? I really do not know anything about Mangos. Is it better to plant it in the ground or I can keep it in the pot? I fertilize with banana peel+grinded used coffé & eggshells as a paste. Is your Pruning 101 the right way to go with all Mango trees? Sorry for all the questions but I soooo love my tree.

Living in central Florida what month traditionally should you pick Bombay mangoes. My tree flowered late in the season around February.

OMG lots of Mango varieties and am sure have their own individual taste. BTW, did you ever check which variety is the best as far as mango is concern? I know that mangoes from their origin will be boasted by their locals as the best. But I heard that the Guinness Book of World Records had already checked on all of the Mango varieties worldwide and they gave the award to the Philippine's Guimaras Mangoes in 1998 and since then that record hasn't been broken. Have you ever tasted Philippine Mangoes? Do you have any Philippine variety in your farm? I also heard that the US, Russia, & Japan, to name a few, have been importing 2 Tons of Philippine Mangoes Monthly.

This year my mango trees did not bear a lot of fruits too! For my Philippine mango, we were able to harvest 180 pieces while the other variety of small mangoes ( dunno the name) barely have any, 10 maybe. Last year they were like clusters of grapes dangling all over the tree.

Have you heard of guimaras and sweet mango catimon? Try it it'll knock you off

You meant the sweet Elena which tops in the brix° over Guimaras, Talaban and Fresco. They all are different strain of Carabao mango from Philippines. Catimon is another sweet variety from Thailand which bears fruit year-round in different parts of the world. But overall these mangos are lacking in complex spicy mango flavors except for their known high brix.
