I think people underestimate the issue between shanshan and guanyi. They started their situationship as free spirits..meaning it was, loosely put, mostly an open relationship. Then feelings developed. Every time homegirl tries to get close to him, he always seems to have other girls. So at yhis point she doesn't know if he is serious or wants to play or if it will last because the man has stated many times that he wants freedom. So its easier said than done to just open up to the man and trust that the relationship will last

It shows the maturity level of each one. Yi Yang is still a child, it's all competition, winning the chip race and seeing Shu Yi as an object to be won. He expected his announcement that he was pursuing Shu Yi to be a surprise to Shi Yan. It wasn't, as we know she'd told him already, and he stands completely cool, watching Yi Yang. Trying to make her a prize doesn't work for Shi Yan, as he understands her agency as a person, making him, again, an infinitely better choice. And it gives him the opportunity to say, out loud, that he loves her.
