The two guests just don"t know about the education system of Malaysia. You chose the wrong guests

They can’t articulate well even using their own mother tongue. Young people, when you know you are going to be interviewed regarding the education system in Malaysia, you should at least prepare if you are not familiar.
STPM (Sijil Tinggi Pendidikan Malaysia) 文憑,才是 A level 文憑。

I grew up during the 80s and 90s. During those years we got loads of TVB dramas, so I learned Cantonese from there. I lived in Klang, majority of people at that time speak Hokkien, so I learn Hokkien. My family is ethnic Teochew, so I learn to speak Teochew. Mandarin was taught to me in SRJK(c) and later bahasa melayu in SMK. English was probably from Hollywood movies and shows like A Team, Macgryver, Knight rider , Thundercats, Airwolf etc. My point is that the languages and dialects that we learned can also come from bonding with people of other races and informal sources like TV programmes and such and not necessarily formal channels like schools. Personally, I felt that the social norms at that time was to master as much languages I could.
19:26 C ma, that’s why Malaysian Chinese are very adaptable and flexible😊 我以前是在政府國民型華文小學和中學就讀。
And thank you Mr and Mrs 'Lion' for your channel and your genuine interest in our education system. If your children intend to make a living in Malaysia, they may strengthen their Malay language from now to continue their secondary education in national secondary schools. They can still learn Chinese and sit for the paper in SPM. The multi-racial setting will teach them how to live together under one Malaysian roof. My own good friends are Chinese and Indians. I learn Cantonese and Mandarin from them.
Chinese school have a Malay and English class where they teach you Malay or English. Other subjects like Math all teach in chinese. Malay school also have a Malay and English language class. All other subjects teach in Malay. In Malay school, if you want learn chinese, must register and attend special classes after school. Normally need to pay

During my generation in 80's & 90's..Chinese class no need pay is free, it just not a compulsory subject.

We don't call our schools "Malay schools". They are called Kebangsaan Schools. (National School).
It is not call Malay primary or secondary school. It is actually National School which is for all Malaysians. Syllabus is standard but some will have English in Maths and Science while some will opt for just Malay language in all text except for language class eg English
Basically,we learn 3 languages start from kindergarten. Then, primary school we have 3 mainstream, malay primary school, chinese and indian. Secondary school we have government school, some subjects are taught in english(like maths and all science subjects), during my time, i am in 32 years old, cause there is transition period to change the maths and science from malay to english, so we will learn maths and science in 2 languages(both malay and english). Now if i am not wrong, now is english. So there is no issue when we enter into university. Private secondary school 独立中学also known as 独中,their main language is chinese. Last time was not recognised by government, so most of them will futher studies to Taiwan. I am from Malay government secondary school, we do not learn chinese , so if those want to learn chinese, it will sort of tuition class conducted after school by outsource chinese teacher.

C ma & C pa are correct. I went to Chinese primary school (all subjects are in Chinese, 1 English, 1 Bahasa). Secondary school, all subjects are changed to English, 1 Chinese (studied until Form 3), 1 Bahasa. After Form 5, went overseas to Canada, all subjects are in English. Dialects - can speak Hainanese, Cantonese, Hakka & Hokkian well. That is how we are being brought up! Very common in Malaysia.
@@irenelai.2406 講英文系米? hao duo hiew sang zai lian hakka wah dou mu hiao kong. du hea ukka yan mao tong k diao kong. ngai geh hakka wah, hea ngai sek lao gor ai si, ngai ge jia po (wai po) tong ngai kong. hock zhuan loi geh.
When you come to Malaysia you can speak any common languages like English, Mandarin cover all dialect in China, Japanese, Korean, Indonesia, India and Arab. These are our master in common languages. Most Chinese speak good Bahasa Malaysia, English and Mandarin.

I am close to age of 70. During the sixties, I study in English school which at that time only had 2 lessons per week on malay study as at that time we did not complete malay words. Like for now the iban n kadazan, they study in b Malaysia as they have incomplete words of their own like the Malay in the sixties. For us, we had 1 lesson per week in mandarin (under the people own language -POL) when we reach standard four.
Very good explanation. 👍Only one thing to correct. There's no more public exam (UPSR) at the end of primary education. Even when there was, the results only really matter if your children are applying to study in residential schools. The Chinese community usually prefer their children to stay at home and study in national secondary schools closest to their home address, which is how students are placed. Secondary schools will conduct their own diagnostic tests to do some kind of streaming, which actually is not encouraged. The rel streaming should only happen in Form 4, where students choose their preferred Elective subjects with somewhat their future careers in mind but of course bound by eligibility shown in the academic performance by the end of Form 3.

Iam a Chinese student studying in a Malay school. Actually, can't learn Chinese by attending Chinese class. If anyone serious about it, you must go to a Chinese school. Nowadays, many Malay and Indian students prefer going to Chinese schools. In fact, Chinese schools are so popular in Malaysia.

Im living in Ipoh, i used to work in a chinese secondary national school. There are gangsterism , and some girls got pregnant. By the end of the year, the girl gave birth on the 2nd day of SPM. there is at least one such case, sometimes 2. The school is well known for misconduct students as it is a a co-ed school. If ii is all boys school or all girls school, there are cases of gay and lesbian. Back then, enrolment is about 1800 students, biggest chinese secondary school in Perak state Nothing unusual that these things exist.
