The term “Head Cement” is misused. Head Cement includes two very different types of glues: Tying Glue, Finishing Glue. This video is how to create “Tying Glue” used in building the fly. “Finishing Glue” puts the shiny finish on the thread at the end and can include things like clear finger nail lacquer or epoxy. This glue is identical to the retailed versions of Dave’s Fleximent and Softex.

Great job, please keep sharing. Also a bit of advice for your essential tremors, get a extra strength multi B vitamin. They are water soluble and you pee out what the body does not need. If you can stand liver eat a couple ounces a day.

Great vid. I love to see somebody as thrifty and as inventive as I am. I have found that clear laquer works pretty good for most flies I make. I bought a quart about 20 years ago, and I still have about half. The plastic lid cracked on the thinner can, so that disappeared while I wasn't looking. Is shoe goo about the same as that goop stuff you are using? I have a couple of tubes of that just lying around and need to find a use for it.

Is there any other glue you can use besides goop. Not all Hardware stores carry it. In fact, I had to order it. Thanks.

Clear nail polish, spar varnish or even better, two part epoxy would be a better lure top coat. This glue(flexament) is better for keeping fibers bonded as apposed to a hard finish.

I am happy you found a glue that works for you. So many things are wrong with your procedure though. Firstly, the paint can should be clearly labeled with what's inside. Secondly, all of your glue containers should at least say flammable, because if you had a fire the firemen could be hurt by that added accelerant. Lastly, please wear gloves and a inhalation mask when making that. The money saved cannot replace your brain cells, not to mention the carcinogens! All the best to you. Thanks for sharing. Use caution like you said yourself! Sean (Yes, I am cautious, I have a mask for acetone, and other solvents used in watch cleaning and repair)

I agree, I don't always use environmentally safe solvents either. Acetone, benzine and the like. I do use filtered breathing mask when using the solvents. I just use varnish from Veniard's or bennechi head cement. I don't use much glue. Flies are lost, bent or rust and I don't try to keep them. All the best, Not trying to be picky, just worried about watching someone inside, use xylene stood the hair up on the back of my neck. Sean
