Mersey Rod, I need to thank you! The drains in my house were blocked and I successfully unblocked them this morning. I went from "Hell and blast!" to "Hurrah!!!" in 30 minutes. I borrowed a high pressure machine, bought the right attachment for 60 pounds, located the interceptors (found 2 out of 3) and located the blockage with the help of a snake. Gloves, safety goggles, stand straight, feed the nozzle, power on and blasted the living daylight out of it. I was proud and happy and blockage free. Yes, yes, yes and bleedin' YES! And there was a huge gush! I was running up and down between the two interceptors like an woman possessed. Did I yell "B.E.A.U tiful"? I did. Of course, I did. It's not perfect, though. There are stones and rubble in the drain so either they were buried in there when the line was installed 7 years ago or there's a hole in the pipe. Anyway, I cleared most of it and if it occurs again I'll know what to do or call company to deal with the stones and potential damage. Nonetheless, I wanted to thank you for saving me quite a lot of trouble, money and headache and teaching me how to safely deal with that situation. Cheers guys, K. (edit) I also cleaned the line up and down and it was necessary. Also, I was having too much fun to stop there. I put a couple of buckets of disinfectant, cleaned my tools and still feel proud of myself. I could do this for a living... Why not?!

Was also about to say these drains were laid back in the early 1840s and most have not been replaced hence why there are all corroding sadly would cost too much to replace them all and most are clay or ceramic and overseen by James Newlands so they been down there a very long time and Liverpool itself was founded in 1207 so our city is very old and so are the drains lucky we have amazing drain engineers to keep it all moving - as those not from here can see the drains across most of merseyside are struggling with todays habits of putting wet wipes down - i am still amazed seeing some of the engineering of these drains when i get the chance. Amazing job guys to keep they city running well. B E A utiful

I think its a cost that is going to have to be paid, here in the U.S. many of the concrete structures are showing signs of wear and degradation because politicians for the last 80 years have not put money into infrastructure. The bill is coming due these things don't last forever. Its costly to replace things today but imagine the cost 20-30 years from now.

But anyhow have you ever looked into drain rehabilitation? There are some amazing projects going on around the country. I'm sure things that have been built recently will be in a lot worse state in even 50 years from now let alone he origional infrastructure A lot of the mainline pipe sizes are still plenty big enough but broken. Ever looked into bristol? Whole river diverted and a lot in pipework/ culvert to bath. Etc believe it ot not I may jus work in this industry but waterbord not private. Have a look online at the mainline drains and culvert around Bristol, and around the country for that matter. Really is a seriously unknown art/skill that's just not known. I have spent many hours walking through and just amazed. 40 meters deep multiple platforms to get down just incase you fell so it don't hurt if you fell..... wish I could share my collections but unable. I know a lot of waste gets put straight to thr the rivers etc but how many new treatment centers have actually been built or even expanded. P.s the one material or pipe I have never understood is pitch fibre. Only can be a incentive reason

@@DylansPen I agree but this is liverpool council they wont pay for anything unless abs necc. councils have been corrupt and still unde rinvestigation so sadly i dont see them putting money aside to update the situation - we can see it needs to be done but getting anything out of the council here is like blood from a stone.
@PamDolittle5 ай бұрын
@@JayJay-ex7zj Yes if i worked for the council directly i would be referring them to some remedial works but alas they wont pay for much at all you should see the roads people pay taxes to cover all this but if it doesnt fit in with the budget here it done get done but the good outcome is we get to watch Metro Rod gang carry on doing some amazing work unblocking some very old work.

I live in the US now, but grew up in the UK, a friend of mine from school owns a plumbing company in Southampton. He deals with blocked drains all day long, he blames three things. Wipes Low flow toilets People taking showers rather than baths. He said the easy fix is once a week take a nice long bath then as it's draining flush the toilet.

People should really stop using these Gradien Tissues. Why are they even allowed to still sell them?
@vanessahann34475 ай бұрын
Do you mean when they refer to gradient issues? They are referring to a gradient or slope in the pipes for gravity to help in draining. The wipes are sold in packages which falsely state that they are flushable. Even if they do biodegrade it will take too long and they will eventually clog pipes. If you have a septic system definitely do NOT flush these wipes as the can mess up the pumps in the system.
