Join me on a historical journey as I trace the footsteps of John Wilkes Booth and the Booth escape route through Maryland, following the aftermath of Abraham Lincoln's assassination. Starting at Ford’s Theater in Washington D.C., where the tragic event unfolded, I explore the historic landmarks along the Civil War Trails in Maryland, retracing Booth's path to the Garrett farm, where he met his fate. Along the way, we delve into the gripping tale of Booth and his conspirators, unraveling the intrigue and impact of one of America's most infamous crimes. I must say, I loved watching this video. One could tell almost immediately it was thoroughly researched, thoughtfully presented, and masterfully narrated. Going to the actual places and narrating it the way you did was very well done. And the way you savaged Booth toward the end - he would've made a horrible soldier (I concur), couldn't follow simple directions trying to escape, the only thing he could was act - that put a HUGE smile on my face and I sincerely thank you for that. Booth indeed was a class-F coward, hiding in darkness and shooting an old man from behind next to his wife. I could imagine what Lincoln would've done to him in that box if he had turned around in time. Man, I wish he had!

I always thought the same of Booth. He talked about how he thought Robert E Lee should’ve fought till he died a martyr for the cause. Yet Booth had 4 years to join the fight and didn’t. He was a straight up coward

Lee did regret the decision in light of what the new union became "If I had forseen the use of those people designed to make of their victory, there ever would have been a surrender at Appomattox, not by me...If I had seen the results of subjugation I would have preferred to die with my brave men" We became exactly what Lee predicted.....a despotic government that's aggressive abroad .....just like the Empire we fought 100 years earlier

@@danielmurdock3086 sure, but the fact is he didn’t. And we’re talking about Booth here. Also, everybody was pretty sure, including Lee that he was gonna hang.

Regardless of everything anyone says about Lee or any other soldier, the topic here is Booth. In my eyes Booth never amounts to much more than a coward. Even in the face of what he did there was still the chance to stay and face his crime and tell his story. But he ran. He was a coward for many reasons. When he shot Lincoln it was pure hatred and nothing more. And yet there will be people to this day that will defend him and talk trash about Lincoln. Thanks for watching

We talk trash about Lincoln because he was - worse than that he was a war criminal and dictator......Read "Union Terror " written by US army col........but this nation is fed so much propaganda that we forget Lincoln and his generals waged total war and acts of terrorism on a population that voted to leave....s own poulation, Merridian, Atlanta, Ciolumbia, innocent women and children, starving an entire population while making and committed acts of genocide against the Indians....

Ask the Dakota 38 and the Navajo how morally righteous Lincoln and the Union Army were...Everyone needs to broaden your understanding and read books that you don't necessarily agree with rather than repeat US gov narratives and indoctrination.....Historians have fell into the trap of just repeating gov narratives.....I once thought as you and would be enraged at any criticism of Lincoln but then I did my own research...and realize history is written by the victors....

Great video but not a coward. Two things. He promised his mother who he loved immensely, he would not fight in the war. He felt incredibly guilty not fighting . Two, he felt he could serve the confederacy by using his popularity as a respected actor to be a spy and also make important connections that would eventually get him close to the president. He also had immense love for the South and loved being in Richmond. Losing both sent him over the edge. Faults yes, traitor maybe, coward never.

Thank you for watching and commenting. I will respectfully disagree and stand by my statement. A man that shoots a man in the back of his head beside his wife is a coward and that’s taking out the whole soldier thing. I did watch the series on Apple TV and highly recommend it, although historical accuracy wasn’t what it was going for.

Forgive me for not shedding a tear for a president who illegally invaded a sovereign nation who VOTED in overwhelming numbers to leave, waging "total war" performing acts of terror on the civilian population burning entire cities to the ground, ending civil liberties and throwing objectors and legislators, over 13,000 left to rot in fort lafayette n.y. without a trial, while all men created equal fairytale he forgot to tell the Indians when he hung 38 Dakota leaders - the largest mass execution in history and then marched women and children to concentration camp camps....No gov claiming to fight a war for racial justice would do to the plains indiana mere months after Lee's surrender....
@HistorywithWaffles

No one asked you to shed a tear and it’s clear that no amount of talking would move the needle on how you feel. I make videos about history and generally try to stay out of debating people’s theories and feelings. What was reported in this video, fact Booth is a coward turned murderer, fact there were people who conspired to commit that murder that many people tried like crazy to cover up and make them seem innocent for generations, fact Booth coerced some of those conspirators to help with the murders even when their own conscience told them it was wrong to kill, fact all of this took took place in a span of about 11 days and 90 miles, last fact you can go see it all for yourself, spend time in the libraries combing through written sources and make a determination for yourself. Neither of us lived in 1865 and is often the biggest barrier to most people understanding everything that happened at that time. Retrospect is the enemy to history because you do not have time for reflection when creating history. Thanks for stopping by and watching if you did. If not you’re missing out. You might have more chances to criticize me if you do.

It's not a "feeling" or a "theory" Lincoln and his army committed acts of terrorism on what he considered his own population and are war criminals.....Booth....what he did was abbhorant but Lincoln was the "KING" of political violence.....It is not a "theory" the South voted to leave the Union which was there right what Lincoln once called "a sacred right".....but Lincoln, like an abusive husband who finds his ex wife's house, burns it to the ground and drags her back by her hair the "union was saved."

There were 2 wars for secession in this country.....one in 1775 and the other in 1861... why is one called a revolution and the other a civil war....Its because history is written by the victors...

No one is criticizing you I just find it amazing that people are all up and arms about Booth, and rightfully so but don't care about the architect of the slaughter of over 600,000 people caused by Lincoln's invasion of a nation that VOTED to leave and then turn a blind eye to acts of terror on innocent women and children to achieve that victory....Lincoln, Sherman, Sheridan and Grant did far worse then what Booth did are considered hero's when in fact they are war criminals and no diffferent then the terrorists today that target civilians to reach their "righteous goals." Pray for peace.
