This song, for me, should be the standard all metal bands trying to achieve a "tortured" sound should follow. The complimentary diminished piano notes interwoven throughout heavy riffs, blast beats, and LOTR Nazgul vocals is so well done it's mind blowing. As an audio engineer myself, having a mix this balanced and every instrument having a place is incredible. How many other bands can thread single notes (not even chords, measures) of a piano in a metal song and have it work? Lyrically, it's so deep. Fucking finally a vocalist who can tell a story and keep your attention, not just spout obligatory/cliche nonsense about death and violence and darkness. When he shrieks at 4:08 "Let me SLEEEEEEEEEP" that hit me so hard. It's the most basic of human needs which, apparently, his character in the song can't fulfill. We can all relate to having a sleepless night and the frustration encapsulated within that nightmare. A masterpiece, truly. Not even delving into how difficult it is to perform a song this long, intense, and complex instrumentally for over six minutes....my fingers bleed thinking of that. Can't say enough good things about this track. And the piano riff at the end......straight Edgar Allen Poe inspired ghost inspired. 10/10.

And so welcoming to see that there’s someone else out there, that can actually pull something personal and heartfelt from a metal song! And not just the lyrics, but the way it’s delivered too! One day at music therapy we were asked to bring a song with us that helped us when we're feeling down or having a hard time. While all the other people brought pop songs or at most some soft rock songs. I came up with this song, and people were disgusted, 2 people litteraly walked away.. Not because it's too triggering emotionally but because they couldn't handle how heavy it was. Sad they couldn't see the beauty of this song and its lyrics.

We grew up in the same town as these guys - lived across the road from the vocalist at one point. The only remaining original member is the vocalist. He never liked the name "Make Them Suffer" and their bassist wrote the majority of their music at the time. All I'm saying is, Make Them Suffer was one thing, and became another. I prefer what they were.

a single tear from the elms, this forest is so full of beauty from what it is that the very water is tears, yet the tear falls and stains the cracked earth, the fact that this place gives so much to others it has given all the hope to others and that has depleted it both literally and metaphysically

A single tear from the elms of emptiness falls to stain the cracked earth And the soil breathes one final desperate, breath of life Tiny budding flowers and colours of joy and hope explode from the water-bead Undying, undimming, before shattering to dust, before shattering to dust These woods have no memory of the touch of sun, or the smell of dew And all I can hear through the deafening silence are the moaning trees It was Morrow who cursed this place Now, cheerless and stagnant it screams in the night So we hearken the cries from the heart of the wood I linger on in doubt, darkness comes early down here Wishing upon ages, these flowers will someday bloom I'd wait here forever just to see, just to see these flowers bloom They never bloom You fucking betrayed us, in these woodlands we wove, dreaming amidst the groves Morrow, no one could stop us, although, now the orchards no longer grow So I'll reclaim the throne of woe I'm starting to count the stars by myself, and this winter is eating away at my soul I'll always remember the day I was stabbed in the back I'll always remember the day I was stabbed in the back, in the back Just like teardrops, the limbs of the dying trees began to fall one by one Just like teardrops, the limbs of the dying trees began to fall Now let me sleep, let me sleep in this garden that never blooms A single tear from the elms of emptiness falls to stain the cracked earth And the soil breathes one final desperate, breath of life Tiny budding flowers and colours of joy and hope explode from the water-bead Undying, undimming, before shattering to dust, before shattering to dust These woods have no memory of the touch of sun, or the smell of dew And all I can hear through the deafening silence are the moaning trees And so here I will wait for the spring, in the garden of tears If you listen in the night, you hearken the cries from the heart of the wood And so here, I will wait until my last dying days Wishing upon ages, these flowers will someday bloom I'd wait here forever just to see, just to see these flowers bloom They never bloom I'd wait here forever Just to see these flowers bloom
