Hey Nick (and anyone else starting out at the gym), can I try and provide some advice on your routine? I know you are new, but this should save you time and increase your gains way way faster in terms of LEAN mass + strength. Stop doing bro-splits, or 5 day splits, etc. This is a typical bodybuilding routine but is not optimal for most natural lifters. Target each muscle group 2-3 times per week with lower volume. Instead of blasting x amount of sets on shoulders one day, divide that out into 2-3 days a week (split the sets you would do on one day a week by 2-3 days). Protein synthesis is only spiked for 24-48 hours, so provide a day or two rest and then hit the muscle again. Natural lifters need to hit the same muscle 2-3 times a week. Focus on compound movements (squats, deadlift, bench, rows, pullups, dips, overhead press) and stay away from machines. Using barbells and dumbbells on compound lifts will significantly improve your smaller muscles that machines won't hit. For example, don't use a chest machine or a leg curl, focus on doing compounds that will hit tons of muscles in your leg and pack on mass way way way faster, as well as improve your core dramatically. Here is a really good routine for getting into this type of working out/putting on mass when you first start. This will get you results much faster than hitting your chest, etc, one time per week. forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=4195843 Cheers man, keep it up!

So a beginner should just do full body workouts then? How long should a beginner do that for, before changing it up?
@sfgigantes88 жыл бұрын
I would look into either doing something like I posted (full body) or an Upper Lower split which divides each day into upper body movements/lower body movements hitting each twice a week. A new beginner could do full body compounds for 1-3 years before changing it up. As long as you are progressively overloading your muscles (adding weight or reps) you will make gains. Most of the natural youtubers do Upper Lower which is a solid platform after you've made some gains in the first couple of years, which is when you'd want to start throwing isolation movements in to even out muscle groups or focus on lagging muscles. But always keep compound movements at the base of your training, they are the KEY to adding mass all over your body. Doing bicep and tricep isolations will get you nowhere fast, but progressing on deadlifts, bench, squat, etc will add mass all over your body.

Nick, I noticed you've been trying to fix your sleep schedule for over a year now. I used to have the same problem, you know what fixed it? Turning off all electronics an hour before the time I planned on going to bed. No excuses. The blue light mixed with the impulse to jump around from one thing to the next makes the internet a terrible place to be before sleeping. There's other stuff you can do to wind down like reading an actual physical book. I know there's people out there that can just shut the laptop at a decent hour and go to sleep but I don't think you're one of them. You can fix it! Remember, any time you're feeling like staying up late to work on something you can always just go to sleep and start on it the next day first thing in the morning, seeing as you work from home. I only say this because it seems like something you want to fix, yet you still always seem to be waking up in the afternoon. Good luck.

@guycollishaw19578 жыл бұрын
JoeytheIntern because your body processes solid food in a different way? I don't fucking know just heard they're a waste of time lol, I used to do them a lot.
@cpmc54008 жыл бұрын
The only downside to this opposed to eating the actual fruit is that eating whole food fills you up more - through changing the fibre structure. He's trying to get bigger anyway so this isn't an issue for him whatsoever. If you're looking to lose weight then staying full is optimal and eating whole fruit, veg etc. would be slightly more beneficial in that it might prevent you eating further later in the day.

Get unsweetened Almond milk. 30 calories vs 90..
@cpmc54008 жыл бұрын
60 calories for it to not taste like shit is worth it to me.
@ImDonnieDarko8 жыл бұрын
C PMc Wait, what? Unsweetened Almond milk tastes the exact same. Those 60 calories is trading Gs of sugar which will metabolize into fat. Unless you're in ketosis, that will make it harder to work off. Almond milk should be in a protein shake anyway, not just drinking it. Taste shouldn't be that important if you take your diet seriously
@cpmc54007 жыл бұрын
Ryan Darko Well, taste is important to most people. If it wasn't then why not just eat a bag of straight kale, down some protein powder unflavoured, some oats, vitamins and water every day for your life.
@ImDonnieDarko7 жыл бұрын
C PMc Sure, I see your point. For me, I choose gains over taste
