fantastic raw and emotionally driven rocker - and the guitar solo is a ripper.

Oh Know Your Enemy, such an underrated Manics album. Some absolute gems on it.

I like Ocean Spray and Let Robeson Sing, (and this is good too) but the album is below average for MSP I think
@ShopliftersUnite6 жыл бұрын
mizofan right on, for me KYE is their most exciting rock’n’roll album, especially the first 4 tracks are among their best ever. Honestly very underrated if only they would still write music from the soul like this or so why so sad instead of the generic arena pop rock they’re putting out nowadays 🙁
@psychicist6 жыл бұрын
@@ShopliftersUnite I miss the Manics from the 90s and KYE had some of their last truly rocking songs. They had one final comeback with JFPL but after that I don't know what to think of them anymore and I doubt they even know themselves. It's such a shame but I guess that's what happens when you lose your drive as you hit your 50s.
@doctorwhat36834 жыл бұрын
Honestly they should have done a two album thing: have one be big abrasive rock like this, Dead Martyrs, Intravenous Agnostic etc. and then release another of the experimental stuff like So Why So Sad, Miss Europa and others like that. That would have worked really well.
@waz31282 жыл бұрын
I saw it as a return to the sound, nihilism and experimentation of the Holy Bible. Even the prettier songs like So Why So Sad were too experimental for early 2000's mainstream. I remember at least 50 copies of the album ending up in the bargain bin at the CD store because the new fanbase they had gained post 95 weren't aware that they were a band making this kind music before ''Everything Must Go''.

I was a busy young mum when this came out. I was so busy all the time that chart music just drifted in the background of my life: in shops, on an unwatched TV in the background. I noticed this one and never found out what it was. I only found out it was the Manics a couple of weeks ago.

Know your Enemy is kind of a precursor to Journal for Plague Lovers isnt it. The lads are the ones who have control of Richey's musical legacy,which is right and proper. It's important to remember that Richey was their friend before they were ever a band.

Did queens of the stone age borrow from this with go with the flow? The repeated single piano note is reminiscent
@doctorwhat36833 жыл бұрын
It is very much the Manics’ stab at a post-punk revival song to fit with the scene at the time so theres bound to be some Queens influence in here somewhere. But yeah the piano is very Go With The Flow

normally videos that accompany songs me absolutley nothing to me but the manics have a way of making videos with something to say....this one for example comparing kids who read books nowadays to endangered species or evolutionary dead ends. another good one is 'so why so sad' which seems to me to be saying the folks that fought in world wars could never envisage that the freedoms they fought for would end up allowing people to enjoy package holidays while the folks that enjoy the freedom to travel widely will never be able to understand the huge sacrifices those combatants made.

Kris Charlton Or you could deduce that zoos, like this exotic animal collection are good for something. This could be true particularly for education, as well as conservation. Kids might want to read about bats, slow loris etc.
