That cemetery perfectly illustrates why the relationship between the Philippines and the United States shall forever be bonded in blood. Much like Normandy in France, we should never forget those who paid the ultimate sacrifice to defend the freedom of others. There they were...together....young and old Filipino warriors and their American brothers defending the islands. It's a sobering place but a stark reminder of what the Filipino people mean to us American vets. 17,058 are buried there with 36,286 missing in action. In fact, it's home to the largest cemetery for US military killed during WWII. Thank you to the people of the city who maintain it with such pride and honor.

@@LuvMyLilBabe Spot on. China's presence west of the Philippines should worry all Filipinos. That's for sure. For example, China has a summer ban for fishing in the South China Sea above the 12th parallel north of the equator but they're likely to ease up on the Philippines because they want to build relations in Asia and avoid a stronger U.S. role in the maritime dispute there. Don't take the bait. It's a game of chess with pawns being moved all around but there can be little positives, if any, with a China maritime presence so close to the Philippines.

MAFE51 Bonifacio Global City is the exception, not the rule. It was built only a few years ago and is targeted at ex-pats. Most of Metro Manila is pretty scary and dangerous where every morning you find dead bodies lying on the street that people cover up in newspaper until the police take the bodies away. 😐😐😐😐😐😐
@oparasatauwaya5 жыл бұрын
Vloggers are discovering Metro Manila is nowhere as bad as biased people like "John Doe" claim it is (I'm sure people like him believe Colombia is just as "bad", best not to listen to negative naysayers like that, they always have some kind of ulterior motive). The Philippines has been going through rapid development the last decade that's transformed it from a low-developed country to what is now a high-medium economy, it's amazing how varied the place is. Check out Brit vlogger Jason Billam's first impression of Manila video, Making It Happen (Austrian couple) and The Juicy Vlog's videos. I believe the couples behind the Making It Happen and The Juicy Vlog channels have even moved to Metro Manila permanently as they were so impressed by it, and didn't agree with all the negative Western press. Those videos will give you a good idea on where to go, where to stay, and what to see in Metro Manila :)

Bloombloom Watch Becoming Filipino's Vlogs in Southern Mindano. You can see the Canadian Vlogger clowning around with his heavily armed Philippine Army escort. Before Du30 cleaned it up a bit by gunning down the criminals without arrest and trial, the kidnappers were leaving Chinese kids dead on the street after their parents paid the ransoms. One of my wife's maids complained to me that three men in a tricycle pulled up to their "house" and shot her husband dead. Watch the Filipina Life video where she talks about her family's past. She explains how her father was a bodyguard for a local politician for a time and their life improved. My 10 year old daughter met Chavit Singson at the MGM Grand here in the US for the Pacquaio vs. Moseby fight. Here in the United States, Chavit had 3 armed bodyguards who never left his side. 😐😐😐😐😐😐😐😐

@@John77Doe Also, on this: The Manila American Cemetery and Memorial in the Philippines occupies 152 acres on a prominent plateau, visible at a distance from the east, south and west. It contains the largest number of graves of our military dead of World War II, a total of 17,058, most of whom lost their lives in operations in New Guinea and the Philippines. The headstones are aligned in 11 plots forming a generally circular pattern, set among masses of a wide variety of tropical trees and shrubbery. The chapel, a white masonry building enriched with sculpture and mosaic, stands near the center of the cemetery. In front of it on a wide terrace are two large hemicycles. Twenty-five mosaic maps recall the achievements of the American armed forces in the Pacific, China, India and Burma. On rectangular Trani limestone piers within the hemicycles, are inscribed the Tablets of the Missing containing 36,286 names. Rosettes mark the names of those since recovered and identified. Carved in the floors are the seals of the American states and its territories. From the memorial and other points within the cemetery there are impressive views over the lowlands to Laguna de Bay and towards the distant mountains. www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=2&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwjniOXZ-MjiAhVOT6wKHTTnD2YQFjABegQIARAC&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.abmc.gov%2Fcemeteries-memorials%2Fpacific%2Fmanila-american-cemetery&usg=AOvVaw2Sk3zOQc0QxozHAXM4Iawo and this: At 152 acres, it is one of the largest overseas cemeteries for American World War II soldiers. Only the Normandy American Cemetery in France is larger, and the Manila plot has it beat in terms of largest number of graves - 17,202 American and allied servicemen rest in the Manila America Cemetery's grounds. (Normandy has 9,387.) A memorial on the Cemetery's grounds also honors the 36,279 American servicemen listed as Missing in Action while serving in the Pacific during the war. The scale of the Manila American Cemetery - and the number of dead and MIA servicemen it honors - shows the massive scale of the Pacific theater in World War II and the equally massive price it cost in lives. The American Battle Monuments Commission maintains the American Cemetery in remembrance of the American servicemen who gave their lives for freedom's cause in the Pacific. www.tripsavvy.com/manila-american-cemetery-philippines-1629749 Note too that I stated the number of headstones which is the question Finn asked in his vlog. Affluent places scattered here and there as well as poverty stricken areas mixed around those areas as well but no matter which area you mingle the people remains the same , friendly and hospitable . *I was about to comment till I saw yours. Just to add, those who lived didn't get their citizenship that easily, they lobbied for it, and many died before they were recognized as such and full emoluments granted to them. They were paid half of their American counterparts as men of the United States Armed Forces of the Far East (USAFE). Many would hate me for this but let's give credit where credit is due. It was President Ferdinand Marcos who lobbied the most and stressed this during his state visit to the U.S. during President Ronald Reagan's administration. That's how long it took for the USAFE soldiers to get what is due to them.*

The private entity that wins the bidding process are the ones developing BGC except for the cemetery and some Camp Bonifacio areas which are not part of the privatization. Its kind of rare moments to see you in the City! I think its a nice idea to you to have a vlog that deals about major cities in the Philippines so as to balance your vlogging between nature and city experience here in the Philippines. God bless Finn!

Not every Pinoy who fought alongside the US during WWII got American citizenship. In fact, the US gov't had withheld backpays of so many Pinoy soldiers and is still fighting the Pinoy vets in the courts to keep them from being granted the money due them by the US military. So many of these Pinoy vets have already died and it's their descendants who are now continuing to fight for what is due them. The sad thing is, Japan who was the brutal enemy had received the bulk of US assistance after the war than their ally, the Philippines.

That is actually in Taguig which is in Metro Manila (Compromised of several cities and other outlying towns nearby). Every city within Metro Manila is different from each other and host several Central Business Districts (CBD) such as Ayala in Makati, Ortigas in Pasig, Araneta Center in Quezon City, BGC in Taguig and Filinvest in Muntinlupa which you can differentiate because of a number of skyscrapers.

Getting to know BGC and be there soon, I noticed your adventures. Wow, you were in PH and great you made it there. Concerning your visit, I'm certain that you and your colleagues are now well-acquainted with PH, especially the history during the Japanese occupation in WWII. In case, the Philippines was a formerly a US colony from 1898 (as a result of the Spanish-American War to the granting of independence by the US in 1946). Filipinos and others, who were born under American rule, were US Nationals. To make sense, the Philippines was a Spanish colony from 1521-1898. During the US Colonial Period, BGC was an American military base named after President William McKinley. After the independence, the US turned over Fort McKinley to the Philippine government, who, in turn converted it to a city , naming it after the Filipino National Hero Andres Bonifacio. BGC is a financial capital of PH alongside Makati (first or second richest city in the country.) and houses international schools, foreign embassies and global firms, as well as home to expats/foreigners (workers and retirees). I wouldn't be surprised if you're currently living in PH, particularly in BGC. Notice many visiting foreigners, including Europeans who end up loving PH don't return to their homeland. Subscribed!
