It's actually safer to be a foreigner in those areas. Thugs know that if they mess with a foreigner, police are obligated to dig deeper and get all up in their business more than usual. It's the city's way of saving face in a diplomatic issue. So criminal elements prefer to stay clear. That said, it's never as bad as some people paint it to be. You will find some of the most chill and welcoming people in these areas. As for the N word, a lot of Pinoy youth use it because it's what they hear from music and their favorite US celebrities. To them, they think it's nothing but a cool word people call each other. They are unaware of its history. Needless to say, none of them say it with hate or prejudice in their hearts.

Thank you for not feeling offended when people call you that in our streets. You have to remember, we were an American colony and we were treated 2nd class citizens like you the Black Americans back in the day. We have this kinship with you guys. It's not disrespect at all. Oh and yeah, hiphop culture is in our streets too.

😭😭Yea ngl I think those babies at 9:34 were shouting out their gang. It tripped me up because they were so young, but then I remembered that kids get jumped in pretty young. That’s just how some of them stay safe and form connections in difficult neighborhoods 🥲

Hey Bro I grew up close to where you recorded your video. You're 100% correct that N word is not meant to be derogatory. Most of us here grew up listening to black music and hiphop artists like 2pac, BIG, Nas, Bonethugs, DMX etc. So when you hear us say wassup my N, it means what is up homie or brother.

As a Filipino American, thank you for taking the time on understanding and respecting our culture. Can tell you’re a decent human being. Much love and hope you continue to enjoy your stay :) (recommend checking out Zambales) my people there are extremely welcoming and humble. Just gotta watch out for some thieves is all.. oh and a few meth users. But majority of em are good folk

Hey, men as a Filipino when my peeps called you the N. It's not an offensive word, never was, and never will be. You were right in how you explained why we're saying it. Maybe due to ignorance, but mainly I think we say this because Filipinos were hugely influenced by Black American movies, specifically black neighborhoods where we see a lot of What's up my N, you know gangsta shit and we just wannabe like that. And we just kinda replicated that without knowing the actual meaning of the N-word. Nonetheless, I hope all black peeps won't see it as offensive, because I have a feeling this will not stop.

Most of us Filipinos are mad westernized. These kids definitely mean no disrespect when they say the n-word. I think it's coming from a place of idolizing you almost. But, also, I think most of these kids, because of the lack of education, don't really know the history behind that word. It's all love tho🙏Enjoy your stay in the Philippines my brother!
