My heart was filled with so much joy watching this video. I am an American of two German parents. I was privileged to spend four years in the Philippines while serving in the US Air Force. Loved it there and wish I could have stayed longer. Now I am approaching retirement, and ready to retire in the Philippines. The Filipino people are the most welcoming and friendliest people I have ever met.

Im still having goosebumbs thinking that Sir Kidlat was a regular customer where I work decades ago as a service crew. 😊 I feel proud that I had served him well and he always choose to line up in my counter. I dont know him yet at that time for I was a 16 yrs old working student. But I always remember him for his artistic appearance and fatherly face. 😊

I would cry if I learn I had a lola like her especially... not to brag👐🏼but... I heard from my lola on my mother side, she told me, we had a grandma who is German or was a German descent... And the more I see content like this, it's not entirely impossible I have an ancestor like her.🥹 Edit: It just brings me joy to see her genuine love for us Filipinos. If I were to pick between two nationalities, Philippines would be my pick even if I don't fit the standard look of a native Filipino... I hate being patronized by my whiteness... and it's a bit upsetting if people view me as dainty and frail just because of it. But that's not important... I love her journey in discovering our culture and her dedication to learn all of it.☺️

Thank you for this video. When our family recently had dinner at Pancake House-Camp John Hay, we saw Kidlat and Katrin having their date there. I softly said, "Kidlat Tahimik and his wife," to make my companions aware of their presence. Kidlat seemed to have heard me and smiled. Katrin had a tube into one of her nostrils, possibly to facilitate her breathing. I didn't know then that she was so in love with Filipinos and our culture, especially our "kapwa" way of life. I pray for your good health, Katrin. May you and Kidlat have more time to enjoy together.

I have our high school French teacher to thank for showing us Perfumed Nightmare (1977) in the early 2000's starring Kidlat with Katrin having several scenes. I thought it was absolutely dumb and yet very fascinating to the point of acknowledging how it mirrored the Filipino's quest for validation in the middle of a modernizing world... which shockingly still exists today in the social media era.
