I had met a fellow who was a friend of a good friend of mine. Apparently, he was addicted to several substances (xanax, opiates) and would travel to a "cancer care" hospital for chemo. He had fooled his wife, children and friends. This went on for a couple years. When he attempted to come clean, he had confessed to everyone. Everyone had supported him with finances and emotional support for years. Everyone was utterly stunned and all shunned any further relationship with him, except for my friend. He ended up dying from an DUI accident (no on else hurt). I bowled with a fellow who was addicted to gambling and he called me at 2 am begging for money for medicine for his young son. I gave him $200, but that was only a small amount compared to others. He lost his wife, family and belongings. He was a jerk.

Hate when they use AA terms as a crutch to continue bad behavior.
@mharris50474 сағат бұрын
AA as far as courts are concerned is a joke. In Michigan there is no "secretary", you literally have another attendee sign your slip and take to court as "proof". Since there is no way to determine that the signatures are real (no phone number or address is taken) the court can't question it. Even AA groups with enough money to hire an employee aren't going to hire a secretary, my father was actually hired by an AA group to open and close the facility they rented and keep it clean (it was an old time office above a small store, maybe 500 square feet total for the office space -- I don't even know how the AA group could afford the rent and to pay my father), honest attendees on probation or parole would have him sign the slip since he was an employee (technically, they met twice a week and he might have had ten hours into it weekly, IIRC they paid him $100 a week in the early 1980's) but no one from the courts ever tracked him down to verify a signature. People that lied and forged the signatures might have signed his name or some random person's name -- maybe even Bugs Bunny or Daffy Duck. I know this from my father's experience with working for the AA group and from a couple of "friends in low places". My father could do this because he had the family logging business and could slip away from work at 4 or 5pm twice a week to go open and close the AA group's office and spend part of a Saturday or Sunday cleaning the office for the next meeting.

I am a psychologist I never see a client online, it's called ethics. With clients who need an appointment they either need to come see me at my clinic or i'll go to them at their home. The face to face contact isn't just about what the client says it's about what their bodies are telling me through body language. One on one face to face meetings are vital for treatment, Who knows today someone just might be after the prescription if I write one to exchange for their drug of choice, which I know occurs. One thing I do insist on is a blood test which informs me they are not drug addicts and it also informs me they are taking medication I prescribe. You can refuse this test but you will require a different psychologist as I won't see them. There is no way i'd write a prescription for anyone I've never met face to face at least a dozen occasions.

It also allows people who wouldn't be able to physically get to the office the opportunity to benefit from your experience and knowledge. Nothing to be afraid of, it's just change. She had that sentence held in abeyance, if she does what she is supposed to for three months she won't do a day of it. As a recovering addict, it isn't implausible that if you are having urges to use heroin/opiates that they would prescribe Suboxone to reduce the urge-even if you've been sober for years. That's the point of taking the medication. I'm not sure what shady things she's up to but I just wanted to speak to the assumptions of the judge when it comes to Suboxone. In her case, it looks like she just replaced one addiction with another. Also, I feel like she's being fairly honest with him, even if it makes her look bad. And her lawyer is such a good advocate for her. She's lucky to have him.

I was taking 20 fentanyl a day. I've been clean for a year with no relapses because I get a monthly injection of Sublocade (same medication basically) and it's completely taken the urge away. The alternative would be methadone which is definitely something you could abuse or I most likely would have relapsed. The dosage is being tapered off as I go so it won't torture me with withdrawals. Until you've been an addict, especially for over a decade like me, you can't really speak to it. Everyone is entitled to an opinion though, I guess.

The Xanax is quite addictive to the right person. A doc told me that Xanax is the most addictive benzo and when they were necessary she would prescribe a longer acting benzo like Valium or Ativan. I won't take them unless they are used during a surgery because they are known to be highly addictive for an alcoholic as they tickle the same receptor in the brain. I don't know if heroin addiction makes someone more susceptible to benzodiazepine addiction but if I had a scary ride through heroin and gambling addiction I would be reluctant to take benzos. Of course I can take pain medication as prescribed without any issue and have for years for a severe back injury but from what I can gather alcohol and opioids don't tickle the same receptors in the brain. Whether opioids and benzos happen to tickle one of the same receptors (opioids and benzos tickle multiple receptors) in the brain is the question here.

OM, this! This highlights the total failures in our mental health system, our physical health care system, our social service system, and criminal system. The generational cycles, the addiction shifting, the greed, the irresponsibility. The decision makers and society as a whole need to do better for our children to head off and work to break these cycles. Once an addict always an addict. You have to learn and use tools to recognize and mitigate those impulses. Addiction recovery is a life long process. The Judge is correct there are many short comings with telemed services and you have to take responsibility. The problem is being in a state where you can recognize this.

You have been manipulated. She's good at it and you fell for it.

@ Wrong child. 99% of the time I agree with the Judge, THIS TIME HE REALLY DOES NOT KNOW WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT. WE ARE ALL HUMAN. NOBODY IS RIGHT ALL THE TIME. It Does not Happen. IMPOSSIBLE
@Nefertiti04038 сағат бұрын
@ WHY ARE YOU SO BUTT HURT ANYWAY? All I Said was He isn’t right this time and this time he REALLY DOES NOT KNOW WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT. Nothing wrong with that. As I stated…Child…NOBODY ON THIS EARTH CAN BE RIGHT ALL THE TIME

@@Nefertiti0403 why the capital letter screaming mode? Take it down a notch. Geez. People have differing opinions about addiction treatment..including professionals..medical, social, psychological, etc. So clearly noone has the one and only right answer..or as you'd say it..they are all wrong. The only thing that's absolutely true is you won't get addicted to what you don't use/do. Still so many people decide to use drugs or gamble or whatever and take the risk..and then justify all the crap they pull because they are addicts. Don't be mad because the Judge probably is so sick of seeing and hearing it.

While she is obviously not trustworthy… judge needs to stay in his lane. He isn’t a medical expert. He’s a judge. If he was capable of being a doctor he’d have gone to med school, not law school.

My husband is an attorney who loves the law and never desired to be a doctor. Why are you mad at the educated?
@Arquis00110 сағат бұрын
@ I’m not mad at the educated. This judge (and your husband) are in fact *not* educated in medicine. It would be foolish to talk with such confidence like he did and really makes me question the judges ability to self reflect and think beyond his gut instinct.

he is the primary judge in a drug court, he can actually order people to take suboxone, he is well versed in it's use and methods, you don't need to be a doctor to be an expert on a medical topic, he probably does have training. have you looked up him up at all?
@Arquis00110 сағат бұрын
@@tankmlee I can’t look him up since the court location and his name do not appear anywhere in the description. If he was well versed in what he was saying he would be simply stating facts and not what he “thinks” of the industry. If he said “I just participated in a seminar where they showed statistically online therapy is not successful at all” I would have a different opinion.
@Arquis00110 сағат бұрын
@@tankmlee he also 100% cannot just order people to take a drug not already prescribed by their doctor… that has no basis in reality.

Nevermind anything about this dumb lady but hearing this judge have a total non-understanding about suboxone shows how much old jurists gotta go

Doctors push zoom meetings so they can't be bothered to really talk to someone. They all want zoom meetings and agreements to take medications when prescribed..smh
@JellyFin-t9w11 сағат бұрын
Lol you are supposed to take your meds as prescribed bud
@hellboip78769 сағат бұрын
Maybe it's different in america but where I am the doctor has a list of things that require in person visits and otherwise it's OPTIONAL for a phone/video call if you prefer. It's way easier to just do a 5 min phone appt and still have all rhe same prescription info

Her attorney is just as much as a freaking scammer as she is. His arguments are pathetic. And amateurish at best. He’s so freaking annoying.
@lynne641710 сағат бұрын
I have no respect for any judge who uses profanity in court. I don't care what a person has done. She is a POS. But he needs to be professional.
@hellboip78769 сағат бұрын
Man that judge has some very old school beliefs. What's wrong with zoom therapy as long as it works? He even said "unfortunately, i have to rely on psychiatrists/psychologists/medical experts because they perpetuate themselves" that is weirdly doomer mentality for a judge that's supposed to trust the experts lol
