'Manipur Conflict is Well-Planned, Funded and Executed By People in Power; Obvious Who They Are'

In a bold and defiant interview, where “people in power” are repeatedly accused of planning, funding and executing the conflict in Manipur, which, in turn, is said to have started with deliberate coordinated attacks by Meitei groups and their instigators on Kuki people, the highly regarded Director of the North Eastern Social Research Centre in Guwahati has said “the conflict was well-planned, funded and executed with precision by people in power”. Although Father Walter Fernandes repeatedly refused to identify who he meant by “people in power”, he, nonetheless, left little doubt he was referring to Biren Singh and the BJP in Manipur but, at least, on one occasion he also seemed to include the government in Delhi. Father Walter said it was “obvious” who he had in mind. When The Wire pointed out to Father Walter that he was specifically not denying he was pointing the finger at Biren Singh and the BJP in Manipur and, possibly, Amit Shah in Delhi, Father Walter kept quiet, thus clearly suggesting he was not denying it. When The Wire said to him he was saying the people who rule in Manipur and Delhi are responsible for the conflict in Manipur Father Walter replied “it comes to that”.
The first half of this 45-minute interview to Karan Thapar for The Wire reveals aspects of the crisis in Manipur that we are not aware of and which clearly suggest that the origin and cause of the problem is possibly different to what we have so far understood. What I feel sad about are the Meiteis villagers who were the first victims on 3rd May evening. It all started in Churchandpur a Kuki Christian dominated area by burning the Meetei villages around that area. Everyone seemed to have forgotten that in the blame game of RSS/Hindu extremist/ Hindu vs Christan etc etc... Who is taking their side?? If those Meetei houses were not burned there won't have been a major reaction in Imphal. That violence pushed the mob. I don't know who has preplanned what but think where it started first. All the Christians are taking Kukis side and all the Tribals or minority communities are again taking kukis side but in Churchandpur those Meeties are the minority. But who is listening to their side???

This whole situation should be enough for ppl to understand how DIVISIVE and MANIPULATIVE the people in power are. They have managed to engineer situation where separate administration is inevitable. And you know what else they are pushing for? New organization of Lok Sabha, which will favor more populous states. And if the states slowly become segregated, combined with increased centralization of power, that essentially leaves whole country at mercy of a majority-ruled Centre with no defense. Plz wake up and recognize everyone, what is happening in Manipur is not only product of history, it is also the future which dirty power hungry rulers want for us all

I have waited for 60 days and more and it is beyond my logical thinking on how such a conflict can go on in such a tiny state with a tiny population compared to so many parts of the country. With so much technological advancements and intelligentia I am baffled to see that the violence cannot be contained to this day. People are left to kill each other and die. How many more lives needs to be sacrificed before some sense of peace and normalcy is restored? Innocent lives on both sides are lost.
