Manipur MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam slams PM Modi for doing nothing

Close to midnight on July 1, when the 18th Lok Sabha reconvened, Manipur MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam slammed PM Modi for keeping mum over the violence that erupted in the state for a year. He further claimed that at least 60,000 people are languishing in relief camps and around 200 of them are dead. The JNU professor said that the situation of the Manipuris currently resembles that of people displaced during the partition of India.

When the people of Manipur - The Meiteis, Nagas and Kukis are fighting each other & killing each other what can Central Govt do? Inter group violence in Manipur commenced almost 50 years back. Nagas & Kukis, both Christian Tribes, fought in 1993 and killed each other - more 1000 died.

@@LionSingh-yu7rb Churachanpur is Kuki Heart land. If DC CCpur has been burnt down it has been burnt down by Kukis. Irrespective of the presence of any number of Security Forces, they cannot stand guard over each village 24x7, especially when the Security Forces themselves face threat to their life from Kuki Militants who dress as ordinary citizens and hide amongst them. Kukis are the problem creators in Manipur- In Manipur Kukis have been fighting with Nagas from 1993 and now Kukis are fighting with Meiteis.

However, the new Manipur MPs have shifted the responsibility to the PM. He has indicated that he does not want the elected MPs to take responsibility for finding a permanent solution. What a shame to evade responsibility after winning the election to the Lok Sabha! No outside power can impose peace in Manipur. It has to come from within. The violence in Manipur started in 1804 when English missionaries were ruling India. The people of Manipur have been fighting and killing each other for 225 years. The violence and ill-treatment of respectable ladies continued for 60 years, after 1947. Manipur remained silent for 10 years from 2014 to 2023 but exploded again. Home Minister Amit Shah stayed in Manipur for 10 days to find a solution. Can a Home Minister stay and wait for 10 long days? The Home Minister will not allow poppy cultivation and illegal migration. What have you achieved by indulging in violence for 225 years? Do you have any permanent solution that is acceptable to the whole people for discussion with the elected representatives? The newly elected 2 MPs are responsible for finding the solution. However, the new Manipur MPs have shifted the responsibility to the MLAs of Manipur by mentioning that the PM should call MLAs to Delhi and discuss the solution. He has indicated that he does not want the elected MPs to take responsibility for finding a permanent solution. What a shame to evade responsibility after winning the election to the Lok Sabha!
