I believe he said Jacob was wrestling with Esau's Angel. So even though Jacob, Esau and Isaac had an arrangement on earth, that Jacob would be the inheritor of Esau's birthright, the matter still had to be sorted out in heaven, with Esau's guardian angel, the Angel over the would be nation of Israel. So Jacob wrestled and won, but he dislodged his hip in the process. Then somehow It got conflated with a descendant of Esau founding Rome? and the Pope calling the Jews the "older brothers" of the Christians. This is meant to say that the Christians are in fact the faith of the older brother Esau, and the Jews the faith of the younger brother Jacob, and that he wants both faiths to merge into one sometime in the future.

Well, the gaslight is Rome playing empire when it is a nation acting behind mask of empire. The book of Esther is about that, correcting an emperor into his role as emperor instead of making preferences for his own nation/ethny over others. Esther and Jews single handedly not only prevented genocide of jews but genocide of all other kinds of nations that would have fallen victim of this Roman like preference. The Pope is a hypocrite in pretense of universalims when it is all about his own private schizo universe. He not only is an antisemite but hates his own catholics not psrt of his little minded world. This is the wrath to come in his anguish for being "annoyed" and unmasked as having a position of inherent evil. This is essentially Essau's beef, ie being caught for his little local needs of being fed like a brat. I am a Torah Observant Christian and I think a lot has been lost in the Greek translations of the New Testament. I came to Torah through diligently reading and researching the New Testament (and then the Old Testament or Tanakh). I was shocked to find that many Christian practices in the Bible were not something new at all, but were very Jewish things, such as a baptism being a mikvah. John wasn't baptizing people in the Jordan River as something new, he was performing mikvahs in the Jordan River. The word bapt-ism comes from the root word 'bapt', which, in Greek, means to dip. Since the NT was written in Greek, instead of Hebrew, much gets lost in translation, especially considering that the NT was written by Hebrew speaking Jews, in the Greek language, and the Greek was then translated into English. The OT was translated directly from Hebrew to English. Jesus (Yeshua) was walking in the temple on the feast of dedication, which means that he was observing Hanukkah. The Bible carries so much more meaning when you look at it through the Jewish perspective. The Old Testament was not done away with. Yeshua fulfilled the spring feasts on his first coming and will fulfill the fall feasts on his second coming. Eyes on Yom Teruah (Rosh Hashanah), Yom Kippur, Sukkot, and Hanukkah).
@charliea71292 ай бұрын
Much get lost not just in interpretation but in the eyes of the writer. When people write, they usually incorpate their beliefs, culture, experiences, and traditions in their writing. Any good researcher knows in order to focus on interpretation or understanding we must step outside of ourselves. Learn their culture and understanding and leave the writer behind. Greek wrote according to their culture. There way of thought. Rome did as well. Each civilation did this, with their understanding. One of the things, they used to do is gather and debate. Try to gather the truth verses what one believes to be true. I like who Christians try to tell the people who have been with this belief a long than Christians that they are wrong. That is being foolish over wise. For us to understand anything about God, we must first learn it from the eyes of the people who this faith has many more years in. Christians, they always want to be right. Instead of humbling ourselves and listening. What he states here is the research that I have been doing. He is correct, actually. But we are so prideful, we can not listen anymore. We just want to be right, instead of being truthful. We need to stop and listen to people who have lived longer on earth. Most cases they are the wise. We forgot to listen. Stories and beliefs, we handed done by the older people in their clan. Why because they were considered wise.

There is a version of the Torah, called the Septuagint, that has its oldest version dated to 300bc, and is written in Ancient Greek. So, something being written in Ancient Greek, at a time where Greek was the cross cultural trading language of the whole region, does not mean it is ‘newer’ or not legitimate.
@SandAngels732 ай бұрын
@hamishbartholomaeus You misunderstand what I am meaning. It isn't what language it was written in, it's that it has lost meaning through translations. The Old testament was written in Hebrew and therefore uses different words for things than the New testament in the Bible, which was written in Greek. Any document loses meaning through translations. The more translations that it goes through, the more meaning that is lost.
@hamishbartholomaeus2 ай бұрын
@ totally agree with that. Also, there isn’t a Hebrew version found that is older than the Ancient Greek version, so…there is a chance it was recorded originie Ancient Greek. Biblical scholars absolutely HATE that idea, but scholarship of the region and its languages, minus the religious angle, think it is highly likely.

Esau cannot be a descendant of Rome. Esau was the twin brother of Jacob and was also a descent of Shem. Rome is a descendent of Japheth. @nicolediamond8273Ай бұрын
@timclayton3154 , No! Romans are descended from Japheth, not Shem. Esau was from Shem, just like his twin Jacob, and Edom was from Shem and Ham because Esau married Canaanite women. That tribe was vanquished by the Romans. The few survives were absorbed by the Arabs/Ishmael! That's where King Herod came from. Herod extended the second temple beyond the walls of the first temple, just as the Muslims extend the peremiters of God's laws. The Romans/Japhethites occupy, they don't build. They dwell in the house of Shem, just like Noah predicted at Genesis chapter 9. You can't trace the tribes genetically throughout history and then suddenly switch it to philosophically! Genesis chapters 9 and 10 explains the tribes and their migrations.

We don’t need the oral Torah to know that Jacob wrestled with an Angel. And in fact Jacob himself says in the next few sentences that he had seen the face of God. In the time of Abraham, three men came to Abraham and he gave them food, two of them turned out to be angels who went to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah. The third stayed with Abraham. He turned out to be God in a human form, telling Abraham he was going to destroy the cities of the plain. Abraham negotiated with him, and God agreed not to destroy Sodom if there were 10 righteous people there. (Unfortunately there weren’t.) Genesis 18:31-33 (KJV) 31 And he said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord: Peradventure there shall be twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroy [it] for twenty's sake. 32 And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy [it] for ten's sake. 33 And the LORD went his way, as soon as he had left communing with Abraham: and Abraham returned unto his place. And Jacob wrestled with who? Genesis 32:29-30 (KJV) 29 And Jacob asked [him], and said, Tell [me], I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore [is] it [that] thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there. 30 And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved. It was God who changed Jacob’s name to Israel, not Esau’s angel.

Physically speaking Esav was older. Spiritually speaking Ya'akov was older. It makes B'resheet (Genesis) 25:23 interesting to interpret! And the Lord said unto her, “Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy body; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people, and the elder shall serve the younger.”

I find it interesting that Esau had "broken out" from the womb. as though he was not supposed to be the firstborn in the first place. If he was born second, then he wouldn't have had the birthright that he would lose later anyways.

I am sure that the learned Rabbi knows that the term 'older brother' in this context has nothing to do with an immediate blood sibling relationship. Whether older or younger, Israel was chosen by G-d for His purposes. The term 'Older Brothers' used by Pope John Paul II and subsequent popes, is a term endearment and respect. In many cultures the older siblings are respected by the younger ones - like in a pecking order. This sentiment is very evident in the Prayer for the Jews on Good Friday, (among other prayers) prayed in every Catholic Church around the world: The Deacon says: "Let us pray also for the Jewish people, to whom the Lord our God spoke first, that He may grant them to advance in love of His name and in faithfulness to His covenant." The Priest continues: "Almighty ever-living God, who bestowed Your promises on Abraham and his descendants, hear graciously the prayers of Your Church, that the people You first made Your own may attain the fullness of redemption." As Pope Pius XI said, in his encyclical confronting the Nazis in 1938: "...As descendants of Abraham, in faith we are all spiritual Semites. No, it is not possible for Christians to take part in antisemitism." The Jewish people are indeed our 'Older Brothers and Sisters in Faith." Together we are all heirs to the Faith of Abraham. We must unite as one family to oppose and fight the deniers of objective Truth and the satanic moral relativism of our times.

Hello my friend. As an independent Baptist, I believe that God never changes, & His Word never changes. Israel is still God's chosen people and still has the same standing among men that it always has had. We believe that, because we believe the Bible. We love Israel and the Jews. To be honest, they're really easy to love, in my experience. What's not to love? Of course, I love everybody; but there's a special place in most Christians' hearts for the Jews. you guys are the whole story of Man, his Fall and God's plan of redemption for him. The Bible - -the whole entire Bible - is the story arc of God redeeming Man and restoring his relationship to us, if we'll only do our part. (Which is to accept the Messiah's free gift of Salvation) To your point, the Lord said that he came to fulfill the law - - not abolish it, and that Heaven and Earth shall not pass away before every single word of Scripture has been fulfilled. (Matt 5:17-18) Amen and amen. Therefore, like you're saying, God's unconditional promises to Israel and the Jews still stand, because God doesn't lie. Of course, the conditional covenants are up to the nation of Israel and how they behave, right? Everyone will give account before God one day on how they behave. We are all praying for Israel and Jews everywhere, as we have been all along. we stand with you
@judgedayan99342 ай бұрын
The rabbi, INCORRECTLY, said, "there is no mention of an angel." Indeed it says, "he (Jacob) wrestled with a man (Ish)." But then it says, "for you have fought with an angel (elohim)." The word "ELOHIM" in Biblical Hebrew has 4 definitions, 1. God, 2. angel, 3. judge, 4. a powerful person (either good or bad). When a scribe handwrites a Torah, he must sanctify every name of God he is about to write. In this instance he does not sanctify the word "elohim" because it does not refer to God, only to the word angel. We know this, as the rabbi mentioned, from the Oral Torah. Why would Jacob fight with God? Jacob loved God and God loved him!

Philo of Alexandria: "God is the shroud that connects the 7 gods of old, those shining lights of the heavens." How many names does the Jewish god have? 7. His names are Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and he rests on Saturday, ie Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn. Saturn-day, Sabbath-day, Shabbatai is Saturn in Hebrew. It's all just astrology nimwitted nimwits. Ask the Samaritans. They tell the truth. As above so below.
