Nice! You happen to remember what forest road you were on where the Taco got stuck? That washout looks familiar to one I have marked in my Gaia.

Land erosion is going to be the downfall of offroading in Michigan... Michigan's northern half is almost entirely made up of sand blown in off the Great Lakes over the centuries. When the Tree Huggers realize the damage done by 4x4's to the landscape the end of 4wheeling in Public Lands and Forests will come to quick end. Heavy rains on 4x4 wheel ditches only will increase the damage each year. There will not be an end to the erosion once started by wheeling.

Where the 4runner?

Unfortunately it was left at home for this trip. Can't remember what was wrong with it at the time, but it was probably halfway through some kind of repair.

The best way I've found is to join a local 4WD club. Try to find one that follows Treat Lightly principles so you don't ever end up in legal trouble going where you shouldn't. From there, you'll be able to tag along on trail rides led by other members to learn about cool spots. The other options is to look for ORV maps put out by your state. Michigan has ORV Trails for ATV's and dirtbikes, but they also have ORV Routes for full size licensed vehicles. There's usually lots of cooler two-tracks near the routes to explore. Also, Forest Service roads are public access and some of those can be pretty cool too.
