Enjoyed your knowledge here..I'm not very knowledgeable and have a question..I just got an '18 TRD PRO 4X4 used with 165k..it was very well taken care of by it's overall appearance..bone dry underneath..rides smooth as silk..I got it from a wholesaler for $22.5k..over 2 days I swung by to gawk at it as I was in love with it and had to have it..gave it the walk arounds and started it up both days..oil was good and golden/ clear before startup, but was about a quart low..no biggie I said to myself..I don't have info on previous type of oil used..I.e. brands, viscosity etc..but I can safely say that CarFax has 16 service records that by the math is 10k oil change intervals..give or take..now..it didn't smoke on startup at all the 3 times I cranked it at the dealer..I hot home and added one and half quarts of Mobile 1 5w30 full synthetic because I live in hot ass Alabama..now..every since I did this top off..I have alot of oil burning smoke on startup that clears in one minute..and maybe a small puff that I can see in the passenger mirror at times while running..do you think that the previous owner may have ran dino oil in it and that's what it may like or be accustomed to? How important is it to stick to the recommended 0w20 factory spec oil? I may need to check the pcv system as I have been reading..but I think it may be the valve seals or guides..or the dreaded piston rings or ring seals..fingers point toward oil getting pushed by some parts and allow oil to sit on top of pistons when it sits..hope you have insight..Jeff
@teamoildrop28 күн бұрын
Hey Jeff! I assume you filled to the proper level? A mix of synthetic and dino or even weight differences shouldnt produce such smoke clouds like this... Any check engine lights?
@jefflancaster658728 күн бұрын
@@teamoildrop ..thanks..i should have mentioned no CEL'S..no coolant loss..using a quart about every 1000 miles..could be sludge buildup.. I wouldn't think so with the fairly easy highway miles its had..and documented 10k service intervals..I pulled the hose off of the pcv valve while the valve was still in the rocker cover..the hose had good suction and the engine did run rough with the hose was off..I guess a leak down test is in order.

Wow I'm impressed by all the original parts list! What year is it? I run a 17 OR MT as well, same color, 77k miles. Lately I started to have random intermittent hard and/or no start issues for a couple of tries. I don't have any check engine code, and it always cranks strong and runs perfectly once it starts so not the battery/starter/alternator, and it never hesitates, so I doubt it is the fuel pump. I haven't been trying that long enough yet to confirm it's the pump, but it hasn't happened since I leave the key at "on" and wait to hear the fuel pump finish its priming before starting. I'm gonna check for spark next time it happens. Can't wait to see your truck hit 621k miles because that'll be 1M kms for us beavers ;)
