Manitoba Highway 75 - Emerson (US Border) to Winnipeg, July, 2023

Drivelapse video of Highway 75 starting that the US Border at Emerson and heading northerly through Morris through the Red River Valley towards Winnipeg. The video then follows the south and eastern legs of Winnipeg's Perimeter Highway (Hwy 100 and 101) around Winnipeg.

Great video! Memories of being on highway 75 back in the 1960s ( lived in Winnipeg back then) when it was just a two-lane highway with gravel shoulders. Then at the border there was always a decision to keep using highway 75 through Minnesota or I-29 through North Dakota. The winter months, it was usually I-29 being a safer road. (Interstate) I see the perimeter highway hasn't changed much since the 1960s either. Same old obsolete clover leafs and no new interchanges on the southeastern or eastern portion. The Manitoba government has been talking since the 60s about converting it into a freeway.

THIS is Original route of US 75 WHICH WAS LATER I-29 US 75 was redirected east to end it Current of it Northern Teriminal in Northwestern Minnesota

Interesting! US 75 goes through the city I currently live in (Tulsa) and US 59 goes through the town I grew up in. I never realized both end up in Manitoba.

Nice video! Highway 75 is currently going through a big improvement, the road use to be very bad and uncomfortable to drive, with no paved shoulders and beat up concrete. Thankfully Manitoba is taking action and improving the highway

Interesting and there used to be a border crossing in Emerson Minnesota which was the provincial Highway original terminus the actual mileage zero for Manitoba provincial Highway 75 is Dallas Texas with itself being the northern extension of US Highway 75. These days mileage zero Kansas City Missouri as Interstate 29. Apply it to Interstates that cross the us-mexico border which shows this result Interstates 19 & 35 mileage zero Mexico City due to them being the northern extensions of Mexico Highway 15 and 85 Interstate 5 mileage zero Cabo San Lucas by taking Mexico Federal Highway 1 mileage.

That "Transcanada [sic] highway" sign on the 75 never used to be there. And looks like they put an exit tab on it even though it's the only interchange on the 75. Trans-Canada takes a hyphen and an uppercase C. Ugh.

I don’t know if it’s really because Manitoba drivers are slow or if it’s because I drive fast. I went between Toronto and Winnipeg and back over the course of four days. So I wasn’t wasting anytime on my drive. Thanks for the comment.

I can't help but think how I'm close to the southern end of U.S. Highway 75. You could say that Dallas is the southern end, and Winnipeg is the northern end, of the combined US/MB Highway 75 :) Technically MB-75 is no longer continuous with its U.S. counterpart, since the closing of the Emerson-Noyes border crossing, although it's only a short trip from US-75 to I-29 at Pembina. Interesting fact: downtown Dallas is almost on the same longitude as the "longitudinal centre of Canada," 96°48'35"W. This very line of longitude passes just west of the infamous Dealey Plaza. I've always thought that if Canada ever moves their Consulate-General in Dallas, they ought to have a facility along this exact line of longitude, as a sort of symbolic act.

@@AsphaltPlanet1 nothing says you can't follow up with a Central Expressway video if you have the footage ;) I'm sure you have other plans, though. While Texas roads are among my favorite in all of North America (it doesn't help that I'm a Texan myself), Canada has plenty of awesome highways... and not just the 401.

A very familiar stretch of highway. Thanks for posting. A historical note that this highway was originally designated as PTH 14 before being renumbered to correspond to US 75 at the since closed border crossing east of the Red in Emerson.

The lakes are beyond Winnipeg, so not too far from the border, but further than is covered in these videos.

It's good to see some Manitoba stuff here once again. It was a pretty clear summer morning when this was filmed. Did you also filmed I-29 during your Summer 2023 trip to the western Great lakes? Also, bad news the Quebec (Originally Chilean) author Caroline Dawson died at 45 years old from a bone cancer that she got since August 2021, almost 3 years ago.
