The movie already looks so horrific enough.. but the real incident was even worse.. Given that it was 2006 nd it was such a small place they didn't have enough facilities.. They didn't even have a pulley so they pulled directly all by hand which is obviously even more hard!

The song matters, It is an old Tamil movie song which was kind of a cultural phenomenon in Tamil Nadu and some parts of Kerala and the song was shot in Guna Cave. The reason boys went to that cave was because of this song. Also the lyrics of the song is about romantic love but ironically it made sense for friendships between men also in this specific case. That's why it was played in the end. Director had also said that if he didn't get rights for this song he wouldn't have made the movie.

I disagree with the opinion that they stretched the storyline at all. I thought every scene in the movie had a purpose and it was edited to crisp. Even with the scenes of them as kids, it helps to bring more perpective as to their characters, especially in the case of Subhash, where it is shown that he’s always felt isolated and lonely and this whole incident to him should have been even more terrifying. He also talks about this in an interview where he also talks about having hallucinations/dreams while trapped in the cave as shown in the movie). With Kuttan, his childhood experience of saving his friend from drowning gave him even an ounce of confidence to jump into that hole. Same with the ‘loosen up’ guy(forgot his name), his ptsd with drowning led him to get affected with Subhash’s fall in a different way than the others. When I first watched the movie, I too thought they were stretching some stuff for more drama but after hearing several interviews and documentary about the real Manjummel Boys, I realised that the movie if anything, downplays the drama. I feel like the movie does at least 90% justice to the true story. Stuff like their experience with Tamil police was apparently even worse and they chose to tone it down in order to not showcase the whole Tamil police in a bad light. Also, the whole thing with the rope and pulley, there wasn’t an even a pulley available back then and they were pulling just by hand, so it was harder.

You don't watch the end. thay clearly show you real manjummal boys photos and all you need to know. Also the whole entire cave and the hole is set, although thay get permission to analyse the cave inside hole is designed by how the real kutten described. The old song thay shown is nostalgia for everyone. The tengthy feel is might be because of the director really tried not to make it snappy. Also 10 main characters not one person is less important. Maybe try watching second time you will get it.❤

Watch ' Manichithrathazhu' the original one of bhool bulaiya ( that you guys watched) It's an classical malayalam psychological thriller not a horror story were the mc suffers from split personality But all the remake one made it as horror comedy 'Bhool bulaiya' is the remake of 'Manichithrathazhu' The original malayalam one is the best

What you said about the police is absolutely right. Most of them aren't paid well, are overworked and cannot get themselves to care in most cases. Not to mention abuse of power and corruption where you're expected to bribe them into doing their job. Not limited to just in India like you rightly said. The song in the intro is from the Kamal Hassan movie 'Guna', which was shooted in the same cave and it was named after the movie. It was a tribute to that song and the movie that they played it as the intro song

Here are some facts and details about the movie: 1. The entire cave where the protagonist was trapped, including where people were standing, was artificial crafted by the art director. It's a precise replica of the actual location. 2. The music director created a new instrument to produce the cave music, which enhances the eerie atmosphere for the viewers. 3. At the beginning, Subhash (who falls into the cave) asks the driver, "What is God?" The driver replies, "God is like a light that falls on us from above," which becomes true for Subhash during his rescue. 4. Subhash was trapped on the edge of a stone because the belt he took from his brother got knotted to a rock, preventing him from falling further. This detail couldn't be shown due to limitations in lighting and cinematography. 5. In the real-life story, they had a minor accident on their way home because the driver fell asleep from exhaustion after the ordeal. However, this was excluded from the movie to avoid adding more tragedy and to provide a slightly more uplifting ending for the audience. The overall budget of the whole movie was around 20 crores Indian rupees, which is close to just 2.5 million USD!

18:25 The complete cave is a set and one side of the hole was open so they could shoot. I believe they mounted the track & jib on a solid platform - which was almost 20 ft high. Also they used cameras including the sony venice 2 (which has an extension system) enabling to detach the sensor & its lens.

25:10 that song not just worked for us this movie became a super hit in tamil nadu because of that song. The director said he wouldn't have made this movie if he hadn't got the songs's copyrights. There is a connection between the song and movie, that song (its on KZbin, must watch) is a cult song from 'Guna' movie, the cave got its name coz of the movie, the entire song was shot in the real cave in the early 90s with heavy equipments and crew, which is still scary to imagine. It was a tragic love story, was a great movie but it did not work in box-office but the song became such a cult that people started going to this place to se the REAL LOCATION OF THEIR FAVORITE SONG 😊 that is how these boys went there. There's no story like this without that song. Before Guna movie this place was unknown to public. People kept the myths & death stories aside and made it a tourist spot after Guna. This song got these boys to the spot, that song can still take fans like me to that spot, That's the kind of madness we have for that song 😅

Dudes - that intro song coming back in the climax is the biggest USP of this movie for Tamil audiences and Malayalam audiences. It’s a very famous song from a 90’s Kamal Hassan movie called “Guna” and that song is shot in this very cave and hence the name of the cave is Guna Cave. Also if you read the lyrics it perfectly syncs with the situation even though it is a romantic song.

The problem with Kodaikanal cliffs are something you dont want to experience. The place is filled many places called "suiicide point" as many people just jumped themselves to deaath there. Some say its supernatural, but its mostly the shear scale of nature that opens up suddendly. Nowadays its secured with railings in most places, but back then it was batshiit crazy. Been to many hills and falls in western ghats, much better than Kodai in beauty and size. But none will send shivers down your spine like kodaikanal.

Yep.. Malayalam movies has the best Art direction and VFX in Indian cinema.. the thing is they don't waste the overall movie budget on leading actor's payments like other industries do. Instead they invest the money on production!! This is why Malayalam movies looks more realistic and others looks cartoon network!!
