Whoa. This is extremely impressive. I even yelped a little at 2:27, when the rat-tat-tat sped up to what seemed like a million beats per minute. Mathematically, this could rank up there in complexity to J.S. Bach, possibly. I don't know. There is just so much going on here. I just learned that this is the konnakol method in the Carnatic music tradition native to south India. Finally, a musical tradition that could challenge Western classical music in mathematical complexity...
@xngr3 жыл бұрын
I think in raw mathematical complexity this is far beyond anything "western". Then again there's not much point in making it a competition, so let's just be grateful for all the music.
@absidyabsidy27272 жыл бұрын
@@xngr not "far beyond", people are doing some pretty crazy stuff in the jazz and DCI worlds nowadays, and modern western harmonic complexity blows carnatic out of the water, but konnakol offers some very useful rhythmic tools that western musicians should learn and use

Incredible. I don't have a background in this style but I have a question. When VV reverses the tala at 0.44s, she claps the quarter notes before the sixteenths, i.e., 5/4+5/16+4/4+4/16...etc. When BC reverses at 0.57s he does the opposite and claps the sixteenths before the quarters, i.e., 5/16+5/4+4/16+4/4. Is this intentional? Obviously it's still 75 notes and will resolve itself after the cycle. Just curious.
@ManjunathBC3 ай бұрын
Yes intentional to give a small twist. Thank you
