Great show. Doesn't follow the events of the books, but the spirit of the story is conveyed by different means. This is how adaptations are done if they aren't an attempt to copy the source material.

Having recently finished Season 2, the amount of detail left out in the recap is astonishing, not that anything can be done about that. The episodes are about 50 minutes each, and this is a 30 min recap. I can't wait for Season 3. I hope we won't have to wait another 2 years.

I don’t think they should have called this tv series “Foundation”. I’ve watched both seasons, multiple times. I get frustrated with all the breaks from the source material. That’s not to imply that the departures are good or bad - they’re just not the source material.

I'd say a lot of the changes are bad. What themes exist in this show but rebellion against the empire=good? In the books, the empire wasn't bad, the Foundation was a literal plan to bring back a stable galactic empire as soon as possible

Who cares if they don’t follow source material. If they followed the source material exactly then what would be the point of even watching the show. I just care that it’s a good story with great acting and visual effects. As long as it’s not woke then I’m ok with it. You source material purists are annoying.

Thank goodness I missed seeing this rot in theaters. I've read the trilogy. Hari Seldon must be rolling in his (future) grave. One Thumb up to you for showing this movie as it appears to be.

​@@everythingponyThe sentiment here is that they changed a lot of key story elements, diverging from core themes. Apart from the Genetic Emperors, every change so far has been for the worse, and even that was misused. Foundation is about the passage of time, the inevitability of human behaviour, and the value of civilization over barbarism. This show is about rebellion, progress, the dangers of stagnation and badass black women.

The last things you've set up as opposites are essentially the same things. And what do you have against black women? Although Gaal is played by a Maori, not that your pale outlook could ever notice the difference... Important to be precise if you have a complaint about someone's race. Just go reread the books. I'll enjoy both for the great, and yes somewhat different, works they are. Everybody lives.

'Gary' Seldon??? jeez .. I loved original work and the later sequels by Benford, Brin and Bear..The series IS really different from the original works. But I have come to accept it for its differences. Foundation is much like Dune. And in some ways much drier. By changing the focus to a core of central characters makes a far better narrative. We would have different central characters every other episode if we followed the books. Also the concepts they are introducing, cloning, memory transfer, soul/spirituality/religion have added a great deal to the story

I wish corporations would have the guts to make their own shows. Instead of slapping "Established IP people already like" on generic scripts some rando's came up with. 'Foundation' and 'House of Dragons' would have been more enjoyable if they were their stand alone settings.

The title makes no sense. While 1 million rooms is a lot , to house 40 billion people it would mean each room would have to house 40k people per room. How big are these rooms. A better title would be rings around the planet would have 1 million cities to house 40 billion people.

I think it's great. Foundation books are ultimately an anthology, which is very difficult to adapt. The addition of the genetic dynasty and having Seldon, Gaal and Salvor "time travel" was inspired. The show is beautiful, intriguing and shows off all the important parts of the original books without taking anything away from the spirit of the books. TL:DR I couldn't disagree more. This is how you do adaptations if the source material isn't easy to adapt for a show.

​​​@@Emanon... - Completely agree! 😏💯 The show is magnificent! Superbly cast, well acted, and I love all of the additions to the story! The Genetic Dynasty was such a smart way to keep the same cast members around for multiple seasons, since the timeline spans so many years. And the deeper dive into the Android Demerzel has been fascinating! I don't get the complaints AT ALL. I don't think I would have enjoyed a straight adaption of the books.

Your loss, seriously. It’s a good show on its own. I read the books probably 45 yrs ago and while very different, this take is a good series. The books weren’t so much novels, at least the first ones, but more like a series of relative short stories because of the significant time jumps. They’re doing a good job.

@@oweeb5909 The overall story is 5he same. Most of the major characters are there, though some genders have been swapped, and it makes no difference at all. It’s a good story, a good show, and I look forward to see how some of the major differences in characters are played out vs the books. Have you read the series?
