Can we really be happy and peaceful in this life? DVG answers this question in Makutimmana Kagga with Kannada meaning.
First of all, what is happiness? Is it enjoying exotic resorts and getaways? Or sitting in the Himalayas and meditating? Or Drinking beer and forgetting ourselves asleep for hours?
Happiness can only come from following these five simple rules of success says DVG.
First, understand your strengths, then extract those you see as good qualities, then understand the intricacies of a circumstance, then more than anything be proud and fearless, finally understand your inherent responsibilities and act accordingly.
With this you draw the grace of the divine and achieve deep inner peace, says DVG in this Mankutimmana Kagga

Greetings! To begin with, I'd like to express to you my gratitude for these meaningful expositions of the Kagga. I listen to them religiously every morning, and think on them often. This has led to a point of confusion which I hope you can clear up for me. A running theme in the Kagga, the Gita etc. is that one cannot give up worldly activities for the purpose of finding peace. But still, I'm having trouble understanding how one can truly be detached from the world while still trying to do his duties correctly. Doing duties "correctly" already implies some attention to results. Is this some kind of selective detachment I'm missing? What does it mean to be detached from the world while still being in it? Does it mean that worldly activities are in fact necessary for finding peace, if giving them up is escapism? Thanks for reading, and I look forward to your reply. Best, Chetan

Indeed it's paradoxical as you said! How can we be detached and continue to give our best effort? The detachment is not about the effort but about the returns or results it gives. I understand this doesn't solve the point you raised. Even I had much deeper dilemmas when I was initiated under my guru. How can one be detached from the very result he/she pursued with the highest focus? He clarified it to me... Our human evolution has solely happened since we've got an attachment of a greater degree than that of animals - be it a relationship or technological advancements. If such is the case, how can one reject the sole foundation on which we came to this point? Let us imagine it like a child using a walker to learn to walk. After learning to walk without any support, if it continues to use it, it becomes an obstacle to its growth. The same applies to using a ladder to get to the next floor. Once we are on the next floor, if we still carry it, it becomes baggage. The same applies to human intellect. It helped us to come to this point. Now we have to learn to subdue and start an inner journey. When we draw our senses inward and focus towards our fundamental source from where 'I' emerges, we start to notice we can learn to distance ourselves from our thought. This we call awareness exercise. It is not easy, but it has a promise embedded in it. It comes with practice. How to start it then? Start by learning to detach when we are at our best... Some great news comes - be it hike in salary or profit in our business, we've to then learn to detach ourselves from it. We can tell "even though I had put great effort, there were many things which would have gone wrong. Good that it happened, but let me not assume the sole ownership of this success". When we start detaching ourselves from 'Good', we can easily learn to do so in bad times. We've to fix our roofs when there is sunshine, initially we've to learn to detach when good occurs. (These discussions continued for hours with my guru. If I was unable to address your question, it is my shortcoming. If it does so, all credits to my HIM)

@@SpiritualKannada thank you, that does make things clearer. Does it therefore make sense to say that one should use the goal as a direction only, and not have attachment to the outcome? Is it then like being satisfied with a job well done? Like a craftsman who hones his craft.
