I am geting my first tomorrow, I am very scared cus I don´t do well with pain. It´s on my forearm, on the upper part. I am so nervous cus I HATE needles so much.. I know some people say like "Hey yk it wasn´t that bad when the needle actually hit my skin", but it doesn´t help cus I am terrified that it will be so painful that I can´t continue... Like that would b awful. Plus it´s also my 18th bd tmrw so my whole family will come home to us later that day after getting the damn tattoo. I got my first tattoo a few months ago at 65 years old. I had just lost my son after an 8 year battle with brain cancer. He and I were big ‘Lord of the Rings’ fans and he had a forearm sleeve with ‘The White Tree of Gondor’ wrapped around his forearm. I got a smaller ‘White Tree of Gondor’ tattoo outlined in blue ink on my inner forearm with my son’s name under it. I just love it.

I currently have 27 tattoos. My prep b4 tattoo appointment are: hydrate, eat 2 hrs b4 appointment, shower 1-2hrs b4 appointment, deodorant, no perfume (some ppl have allergies/ sensitive to smell), bring sugary drink to appointment in case blood sugar drops (rare but can happen), arrive 5-20minutes early (dependingon your schedule) & be positive! Have all references sent ahead of time & make your expectations known. I've had the same tattoo artist for 3 yra & have gotten 16 tattoos done by the same guy so he understands my aesthetic by now but in the beginning, don't be afraid to speak up NC remember that this willn(hopefully) be on you 4eva.

I had my first tattoo over a month ago and I sat a 6 hour session. I wasn’t even nervous or anything, I just played it cool. Had a McDonalds breakfast beforehand and got myself a Lucozade and a pack of Haribo just in case and felt good. Didn’t faint or anything, I researched the tattoo artist and she is marvellous. I’d known her for years prior and followed her work for years so I’d plucked up the courage and got myself a Pikachu tattoo on the back of my leg. I followed the instructions on the aftercare and it’s turned out fantastic. I felt the scratching pain but kept singing along to songs to get my mind off it.

I love your channel. I believe in go big or go home.... none of this line drawing. I totally agree that research is important... but not just the tattoo shop, but the artists. My artist is like my best friend. The first one is colour and took 4.5 hours. The second was 6 hours and I had to call it... being honest. That is me. I always recommend for beginners to start small than going big. Because, for one, it tends to be a regrettable decision made and it hard to decide on a proper design when a beginner is not so knowledgeable on what theyre getting. So small or slightly medium sized tats are the way to go since its easier to decide on an unregrettable design.

I'm looking to get my first tattoo and this was helpful in preparing for it. I don't a consultation planned, but I'm planning on getting the Straw Hat Jolly Roger from One Piece. Not only because I'm a fan, but also because the fact that most of the show is a group of friends working towards their dreams that draws me to it. My ideal day of getting it (if I can book it then) coincides with my first 10k road race and my birthday the next day. And the road race is big because I've never been an athletic person, but I've fallen in love with running for the past year and a half.

Just had my first at 34 years old and it was meaningful. Just below the knee and on the shin 5 inch long and 3 wide 😅 It wasn’t as bad as I had imagined. I plan on getting an entire sleeve on this same leg. If anything, I would advise to wait till your a little older and know yourself better before getting one. I 100% agree with the skin prep prior to the appointment. Something i would add, which I personally do, is cleanse the area with a chlorhexidine wash for a few days prior to the appointment. You can get generic chlorhexidine washes at the pharmacy. Hibicleanse is the brand name. You can also get wipes to use to prep the area. This is what is done to prep for surgery to prevent surgical site infections. You will be creating a large wound, breaking the skin barrier. Doing three days of chloehexidine prep and proper aftercare significantly reduces the chance of infection. Nobody wants an infected tattoo!

having a lot of ideas is a good thing. make sure you present all of your ideas with your tattoo artist and work with them on creating the design. but remember, they are artist for a reason. allow them to have some creative freedom on your design. This is what they do for a living after all LOL

Great video! But I disagree that your first tattoo should be small. It really doesn’t hurt that much and even a first timer can sit for hours. (As long as your start with an easier area like your upper arm). If you want a small tattoo that is fine, but don’t size your design down if it should be bigger to show the details.

going to get my first tattoo in 2 days! it's a matching one with my sister (she already has tattoos) we're getting our birth flowers (daisy and rose) in a bouquet with our favourite colours (blue and purple) splashed around it in a water colour style (the water colour style is basically his signature). We're going to the artist that has done all except one of my sisters tattoos, he super nice, I'm also really nervous and I told him that when we went for our consult, I'm not afraid of needles, but I am afraid of the pain and the permanence, this tattoo means a lot to me, but it is pretty scary knowing it will be on me forever. This is gunna be a longish story. I’m booking my first tattoo soon. I’m 19 and I’ve been wanting this exact tattoo for almost 5 years now lol. It’s a semi hollow body guitar with greenery behind it. It’ll have a bunch of references of my favorite singer hozier. Like a Shrike sitting on the head of the guitar and a snake in the greenery. It’ll go on my forearm most likely. I’m going with a guitar because I’m a guitarist and I always will be, so it seems like a good pick lol. And the hozier references will always mean something to me because his music has gotten me through a lot of hard times including starting adulthood. exactly! i can empathize I'm 22 and got my first tattoo at 18. It's a sword that runs from my neck to between my shoulder blades and represents my love of books (it's my favorite character's weapon). I knew I wanted that tattoo since I was fifteen, and the fact that it lasted me three years was reason enough for me to finally get it. The studio was recommended to me by a friend and they did a fantastic job. My tattoo artist was nice. I came back two years later and now I have a second tattoo in the form of a sakura branch from the back of my shoulder to my cleavage. I love both of my tattoos and have been playing with ideas for more.

I’ll be getting my first ever tattoo in a few weeks. I wanted to get it on my stomach but I was thinking into the future if I lost my figure how it would look, then my dad recommended for me to get it on the back of my neck. I could easily hide it with my hair, but I saw many people saying how it would be really painful due to how much nerves there are there, but the tattoo I want to get is small and simple. Should I still get the tattoo there, maybe place it lower, or just sit through it? I do want it on the back of my neck but I’m scared I won’t be able to endure the pain of it and it’d take hours and hours to finish.

1.5 months until i can finally get my first tattoo, i have been waiting for years to finally get it and its going to be a reference of my cat (I love him so much and I'm worried that he may not live for long - hes only 8, but he isn't eating properly, has only 3 teeth, and has been throwing up a lot 😔) that got kind of dark quickly, oops. I want to get 2 tattoos as my first ever. One is "hell is empty and all the devils are here" and the other is "ignite". The two tatoos are ofc with meaning. The first one is about the people who i know and not only them who are two-faced and etc. I kind of relate to it and its pretty true about most people. However the second one "ignite" basically is "I grieve nothing and i take everything" and its related with my past. Only thing im not sure about is where to place them. The original idea was the first tattoo to be on the inside of the hand and the other hand since it is only one word I thought to be on the fold. I am not sure because people tell me its too exposed and its not beautiful for girls. Any comments on this and suggestions where to place it? ❤

I am getting a full colour tattoo of my dog on Friday...she is a light brown and a bit of white color.. my problem is choosi ga main color for the background.. getting it done on my shoulder.

That is such an awesome thing Gareth. I personally love pet tattoos. A good rule of thumb is the contrast the main subjects color. (Your dogs light brown color) but realistically your tattoo artist will be able to pick a color out for you that will work beautiful together.

Hello mate, great video - just wanted to ask a couple of questions as someone who is about to get his first tat - what would you say is more important for pain: the size of the tattoo, or whether there is a lot of shading in the piece (for example I'm probably going to get a tattoo with very little shading, but it's quite large) - it's my first time and the plan is to get one on the lower stomach off to the right. Hey! so this is a great question. i would say the most deciding factor of how painful a tattoo can be is based on where you get the tattoo done at. in your case, the stomach area is known not to be a fun spot to get tattooed. the size deffinitly matters as well because the bigger the tattoo is, the more time you are spending in the chair, the more time in the chair, the more painful it will be. i hope this helps lol. i did make a video on how to reduce the pain of getting a tattoo, you might want to watch it. here it is kzbin.info/www/bejne/f16vmmaqep2prrMsi=QJybGY6IUnL7F2TH

well it really depends on how detailed and big the tattoo will be. but if thats the tattoo you really want, id recommend going with that. you can always split up the sessions in order to complete it so you dont have to sit for 8 hours stright.

My 1st tattoo was in 07/08 & it's a typical early 2000's tattoo ( Nautical star on the forearm) & I still love it too this day. What I regret is my 2nd tattoo I got just 3 months later. I don't regret my design, I regret my artist I chose bc I did NO research. I wasn't aware she was an apprentice. She claimed she understood what I wanted & reassured me it would be what I wanted but once it was done it was NOT exactly what I asked for. I asked for a cross-stitch tattoo, even brought in a literal cross-stitch of the design. All she had to do was replicate what I gave her. She didn't do the cross-stitch style but did a usual cartoon style. Keep in mind the cross-stitch tattoos are known now but back in '08 when I asked for it they weren't a thing (as far as I know). In top of all that, the color fell out & I went back for a touch up in a couple weeks but it fell out again so I gave up. Now, 15yrs later, I have a half faded cartoon style tattoo on my shoulder blade that was meant to be a cross-stitch. Eventually I'll have it covered up once I'm done finishing up my sleeves.

my first tattoo was actually done at home by someone who just bought a machine off amazon, they made sure to be pretty sterile but i got it on a whim during bad emotions. so technically i havent ever had a REAL first tattoo, done professionally. so for my first tattoo (which will be a coverup), i want to get in neotraditional and full color. im inspired by a movie called the last unicorn and also tarot cards. i want it to have some florals around the border, probably peonies just because i think theyre really pretty. i want the tarot card to be the star and i want the picture inside (or maybe leaving the boundaries for dimension) to be a scene of the unicorn fighting off the red bull into the sea after saving the unicorns from King Haggard. or instead of using flowers around the border i could use elements and motifs from the movie, like the skeleton and the wine bottle, or the butterfly. but yeah thats what ive concocted so far :) been cooking this one up for a few years, its my favorite movie since i was a child
